GEORGE TOWN: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) has questioned Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Latheefa Koya's statement that details of investigations that are active cannot be revealed.
The MCA president was responding to Latheefa's statement in a news portal where she had said that the MACC and other investigative agencies cannot divulge details of investigations that are active.
She said this in response to a question about the written requests by Dr Wee sent to her and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador over the allegedly leaked Penang undersea tunnel project investigation papers.
Dr Wee had requested to see the police report the commission is said to have filed regarding leaked investigation papers into the project and updates to related probes.
In a Facebook post Sunday (Sept 8), Dr Wee asked the meaning of "active" investigations, and does it mean "investigations on the case and relevant charges that haven't been completed".
"If that is true, how is it that the Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said on April 17 that MACC had sent two letters exonerating Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd and its owner of corruption.
"For the record the Chief Minister made the statement two months before Latheefa was appointed to her present post.
"The question now is if the case is still active, how did Chow said that MACC had cleared the company and its owner five months ago.
"Should the people listen to the Chief Minister or the chief commissioner and who is the investigation party in the case."
Dr Wee also questioned the delay in the MACC investigations and what is the feedback of the Attorney General since the case was under investigations since 2017.
