PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) has welcomed the economic stimulus package, but urges the government to do more to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
It said the government should take into consideration the financial problems faced by SMEs, especially their cash flow, and provide comprehensive support through measures such as tax cuts, interest rates and loan facilities.
This could then prevent the collapse of SMEs, as well as protect employment opportunities of the people, the MCCC said.
Referring to the 28-day movement control order (MCO) period, it said the MCO would help prevent the spread of the virus, but the suspension of business and industrial operations had also put pressure on SMEs.
“It is hoped that the government can set up an unemployment fund to assist employees who may be laid off after the MCO period, in addition to applying for unemployment benefits from Socso, ” it said in a statement yesterday.
