Dewan Rakyat has passed the Supply Bill (Budget) 2021 at its third reading with 111 in favour to 108 against and one absent today.

The absentee was Tengku Tan Sri Razaleigh Hamzah.

The government will spend RM322.5 billion next year as it seeks to revive the economic activities following the downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The supply bill is RM45 million short compared to the amount proposed at its first reading after the lawmakers approved to slash RM45 million from the Special Affairs Department’s (Jasa) allocation.

Education Ministry continues to be the biggest recipient of the federal budget, with RM50.36 billion.

Emoluments take up the largest portion of the ministry’s expenditure at RM38.94 billion or 77.32% of its total allocation.

Under its development expenditure, the ministry will be spending heavily on rural development programs, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, and enhancing school facilities.
