Multi-agency committee hunting local, overseas GISB-linked businesses

KUALA LUMPUR: A joint committee between the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and police is currently identifying business entities linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) based in the locally or abroad, the Dewan Rakyat heard.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the authorities were gathering information on individuals or groups linked to the company including those based overseas.

“On the statistics of GISB-linked companies based abroad, we will cooperate with the police.

“(The police) will provide the figures and details on the number of local companies and international-based companies owned by GISB.

“The committee formed between the police, Jakim and Welfare Department will also identify the numbers of GISB followers in the country and overseas,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time session on Monday (Nov 18).

Mohd Na’im was replying to a supplementary question by Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) requesting the latest statistics of GISB followers and companies linked to the group based locally and abroad.

On Nov 16, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police have identified 69 premises abroad, worth about RM52.4 million, belonging to GISB.

Razarudin said these assets are spread across 15 countries. He added the Malaysian police's strategic partners abroad have confirmed the location of 40 of these premises in four countries as of Oct 31.
