SHAH ALAM: Hulu Kelang assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has accepted the proposal to be appointed as the Bersatu secretary-general, reports Sinar Harian.

Azmin said Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin mentioned the matter during a party special conference in Selayang in July of this year.

"When we discussed the matter of leadership transition needing to be conducted harmoniously, during the press conference, the president has proposed my appointment as Bersatu secretary-general.

"Following that statement, we indeed had a series of discussions, and I expressed to the president my readiness to assist him and the Bersatu party leadership council in strengthening the party," he said when met after attending the morning session of the Selangor state assembly on Tuesday (Nov 26).

Azmin said at the moment, this is only a proposal made by the president under his authority.

"As a loyal party member, I am ready to accept this heavy responsibility to work alongside the president, party leadership, and members to take Bersatu to greater heights, God willing," he said.

Earlier, Muhyiddin was reported by Sinar Harian as saying that he had a 'heart-to-heart' discussion with the assemblyman and the appointment was agreed upon.

It was previously reported that Mohamed Azmin had declined the offer for the position because he wanted to focus on leading Selangor’s Perikatan Nasional in its mission to win the state in the coming elections.
