PUTRAJAYA: The government has banned exports of face masks effective March 18, says the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.

Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who announced this, said the government was also allowing imports of the product to ensure sufficient supply.

However, the price of the three-ply face mask will now cost RM2 instead of 80 sen per piece.

Linggi said the price of face masks needed to be increased due to higher cost of production materials.

"By allowing face masks to be sold at RM2, we hope to encourage local manufacturers to produce more.

"For exporters, this price will help cover the costs to bring the product into the market.

"With this, we hope to increase the availability of face masks," he said after jointly chairing a meeting with Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datul Ronald Kiandee to discuss with stakeholders in the food production and retail industries.

Kiandee said that food producers had raised some issues which he would bring up with the National Security Council.

He said, for instance, while chicken and egg production was considered essential, farmers needed its support sector to also be in business during the movement control order.

"For now, stakeholders say they are able to meet market demand, so there is no need for consumers to panic buy," he said.

owned subsidiary of Vsolar Group Berhad (“Vsolar”) has today entered into a
Collaboration Agreement with Mattan Engineering Sdn Bhd to explore the feasibility
of developing a Large-Scale Solar Facility (“the Project”) under the LSS@MenTARI
programme launched by the Malaysian Energy Commission.
Vsolar via Cubetech Asia Sdn Bhd intends to bid and secure a quota under
LSS@MenTARI programme, with the support of Mattan Engineering Sdn Bhd as the
EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning) partner to
develop the Project.
The Ministry has set the maximum capacity at 50MW per participant to encourage
more locally owned enterprises to be involved in the renewable energy sector.
Vsolar is delighted to engage Mattan, a company who has the expertise and a
tremendous track record of managing and integrating multi-disciplined Renewable
Energy projects in Malaysia. As an EPCC contractor, Mattan has completed a
variety of turnkey projects in recent times. In November 2017, Mattan was appointed
the turnkey EPCC contractor of a large-scale solar facility generating up to 50MW in
Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, which as of to date, is ranked as one of the largest solar
farm in Malaysia.
The Project is anticipated to significantly increase Vsolar’s energy generation
capacity and will mark a significant milestone for Vsolar if commissioned. The
Energy Commission has set the bidding process to be closed on 2nd September
2020 to ensure that any successful bidder can launch their solar facility

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 4): Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd, Green Ocean Corp Bhd and AT Systematization Bhd have denied that they are in a partnership to form a glove-making pact.

In separate bourse filings, the three companies refuted a news report that said they were working together on a partnership.

"Kossan wishes to clarify that the company is neither aware of nor involved in the abovementioned glove-making pact or tripartite partnership.

Meanwhile, the board of Green Ocean also clarified that there has been no discussion taking place among the parties for a joint venture of any kind.

"Green Ocean is committed to charting its own course of action independently and will keep the market informed on any developments that materialise," the company said.

Likewise, the board of AT Systematization also denied such an agreement exists.

Kossan finished 2.17% or 40 sen higher at RM18.84, valuing it at some RM24.1 billion. Green Ocean was down 3.03% or a sen lower at 32 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM92.71 million. AT Systematization concluded the day up by 5% or half a sen higher at 10.5 sen, giving it a market value of RM195.57 million.

SEMPERIT AG Holding’s next move will be closely watched by investors, given that it has decided to delay the selling of its medical business Sempermed, which includes Kamunting-based glovemaker Latexx Partners Bhd.

Sempermed is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of examination and surgical gloves as well as protective gloves for the industrial sector. In its industrial sector are Semperflex, Sempertrans and Semperform, which make hydraulic and industrial hoses, conveyor belts and moulded as well as extrusion products made of rubber and plastic.

When contacted by The Edge, a Semperit spokesperson explained that the group, which is listed on Vienna’s stock exchange, had in January decided “to separate” Sempermed — which manufactures examination and protective gloves in Malaysia under Latexx Partners, and surgical gloves in Austria — from its industrial business.

However, the Covid-19 crisis has set new priorities for the group, the spokesperson says. “In the current phase, the focus is on supply security for Austria. Semperit is fulfilling its responsibility to Austria and supporting the republic with its medical gloves in order to make the greatest possible contribution to combating the coronavirus crisis. For these reasons, the implementation of the strategic landmark decision to separate from the medical business will be delayed in any case.”

The group added that it took the decision because of intensifying competition in the gloves sector. “This includes considerable overcapacity, an increasing gap with the market leaders in terms of unit numbers and production automation, and the fact that the continuation of the medical business requires particularly high investments against this background.
