12-hour wait in a Tampa emergency room
With 48.3% of the US still not fully vaccinated, hospitals are straining to keep up with incoming patients as cases rise. Florida has been hit particularly hard, with the worst per capita Covid-19 hospitalization rate in the country -- about 80 per 100,000 people. That's followed by Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Louisiana, each with more than 55 hospitalizations per 100,000 people, according to HHS data.

With more than 100,000 people in the hospital with Covid-19 in the US, this August is worse than last, expert says
More than 100,000 people are hospitalized with Covid-19 in the US -- the first time that level has been reached since January -- as medical workers say they're once again struggling to treat waves of patients.
The latest figure, amid a summer surge in Covid-19 cases driven by the highly transmissible Delta variant, is also more than double what it was on the same day last year, when vaccines were not available as they are now.

Israel Braces for 4,800 Hospitalized COVID Patients, Half of Them in Serious Condition
The government is forecasting that the number of patients hospitalized with the coronavirus will double every 10 days, reaching 4,800 people – half of them with serious cases – by September 10.
According to Health Ministry figures, the number of serious COVID cases rose on Wednesday to 400, the highest figure since March. About 150 of these patients are not fully vaccinated. Israel hit its highest number of serious cases in January, with 1,200 patients – about half of the number predicted for next month.

Kerala has reported more than 40,000 "breakthrough" COVID-19 cases. Breakthrough infections involve cases where individuals contracted the pathogen for a second time or after being vaccinated against it. The Union Health Ministry has reportedly raised concerns about this worrying trend in Kerala, which is currently leading India's outbreak. The Centre has reportedly asked the Kerala government to send all such cases for genome sequencing.
Speaking to India Today, a source in the Union Health Ministry—who visited Kerala—did not rule out the possibility of a new variant. "The rise in the number of breakthrough infections and re-infections is possibly due to a variant which is escaping immunity," the source said. It is suspected this may not be a further mutation of the Delta variant, rather a new variant altogether.

Pfizer's Covid vaccine is only 42% effective against Indian 'Delta' variant while Moderna's jab is 76% effective, Mayo Clinic study suggests.
The two most commonly used COVID-19 vaccines in the U.S. may not be as effective against the Indian 'Delta' variant, a new study finds.
Pfizer's vaccine efficacy dropped to 42% in July, with Moderna's falling down to 76%, when the Delta variant became the dominant strain.

Renowned epidemiologist says the world 'is closer to the beginning than the end' of the pandemic and warns Indian 'Delta' variant is 'maybe the most contagious virus' ever.
Dr Larry Brilliant, part of the WHO team to eradicate smallpox, said the pandemic is not close to over because only 15% of the world has been vaccinated.
He added the Delta variant is the most contagious virus he's ever seen because it has a short incubation period and one person spreads it to eight others.
'I think we're closer to the beginning than we are to the end [of the pandemic], and that's not because the [Delta] variant that we're looking at right now is going to last that long,' Brilliant told CNBC.
'Unless we vaccinate everyone in 200-plus countries, there will still be new variants.'

No wonder Ping previous shareholders sold their company and I suspect those Ping shareholders who are holding Dnex shares at 0.80 will be looking to offload asap. This is the reason why bankers will not push price too high for them to offload.

There is a theoretical expectation that some types of vaccines could prompt the evolution of more virulent (“hotter”) pathogens. This idea follows from the notion that natural selection removes pathogen strains that are so “hot” that they kill their hosts and, therefore, themselves. Vaccines that let the hosts survive but do not prevent the spread of the pathogen relax this selection, allowing the evolution of hotter pathogens to occur. This type of vaccine is often called a leaky vaccine. When vaccines prevent transmission, as is the case for nearly all vaccines used in humans, this type of evolution towards increased virulence is blocked. But when vaccines leak, allowing at least some pathogen transmission, they could create the ecological conditions that would allow hot strains to emerge and persist.

US will see 100,000 more COVID-19 fatalities between now and December 1 to bring death toll to nearly 730,000, new model predicts
A new model from IHME predicts that an additional 98,000 Americans will die of COVID-19 between now and December 1 for a total of 727,949 deaths
The projection says deaths will rise from the current 1,100 per day to 1,400 per day by mid-September, then decline slowly
In an absolute worst-case scenario, IHME predicts there will be a total of 797,506 coronavirus deaths over the next 13 weeks
