Is it wise for Netflix to cooperate with Astro?

Who stands to gain more from this cooperation?

Netflix was launched in Malaysia back in 2016.
As of 2020, Netflix has about 336 000 subscribers.

Astro will help Netflix to reach a wider audience (just like what Astro did for Disney+ Hostar)

With a discounted price (just like Disney+ Hotstar), Astro users can subscribers to Netflix.

This means the number of Netflix users will increase.

Astro might receive a percentage of income from the new subscriptions.

Netflix can save tons of money spend to market their platform on YouTube.

The non movie package astro customers may consider subscribing to movie package to access Disney Hotstar and possibly Netflix at a cheaper rate.

This also may deter the existing customers from abandoning Astro all together.

Disney Hotstar and Netflix will help Astro to stay relevant in the internet age.

Privatisation?

Yes... Program wise, I couldn't agree more. Repetative in nature but the numbers don't lie. Profits has been rising consistently.

So far shareholders received 8 cents dividends (7%). Some more a final divided of RM 0.025 has been proposed. Payable on 23 Jul. This would make % dividends to be 9% based on 52 weeks high share price (RM 1.15).

Obviously, more money is being made through TV shopping, Astro+broadband and soon to be launched Astro+Disney+

MCO/Lockdown has been nice to Astro. Its profit has been increasing since the first MCO. Couple with the launch of Disney+, Astro is poised to earn more. More people stay at home, watch more TV. Buy from Go Shop more.

In compliance with the government’s latest SOPs for the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0, Resorts World Genting will be limiting its operating hours from 8am to 8pm, effective 25 May until 7 June 2021. EPF cease to be a substantial share holder of Topglove on Tuesday.
