KUALA LUMPUR: A unit of SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd has signed the SK310 upstream gas sales agreement in relation to the production of gas from the B15 Gas Field.

SapuraKencana said in a statement on Monday that the agreement was signed on June 23, 2016, between Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) as gas buyer and the contractors of the SK310 production sharing contract as joint sellers.

The unit, SapuraKencana Energy Sarawak Inc (SKE) is the operator of Block SK310 production sharing contract which was awarded by Petronas on June 17, 2008.

SKE has participating interest of 30%, while Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd has 40%, and Diamond Energy Sarawak Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation has 30%.

The multi billion B15 gas field which was discovered in December 2010 is located within the SK310 production sharing contract area, offshore East Malaysia.

The development will comprise a central processing platform with a 35km gas evacuation pipeline to be tied into the existing infrastructure.

The B15 gas field will deliver gas to the Malaysia Liquefied Natural Gas (MLNG) complex in Bintulu, Sarawak, with the first delivery targeted to be in the fourth quarter of 2017.

“I would like to thank Petronas and the SK310 JV partners for their efforts in getting the project to realisation.

“The SK310 upstream gas sales agreement marks SKE’s first participation in a Gas Sales Agreement for East Malaysia,” said SKPB president and group CEO Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin.

Petronas Discovers over 4 Tcf of New Gas Reserves Offshore Sarawak
Malaysia is one step closer to strengthening its position as Asia's liquefied natural gas powerhouse with the discovery of two major gas reserves offshore Sarawak.

State-backed Petronas said in an emailed statement to Rigzone Monday that it has made two major gas discoveries, which combined could contain over 4 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of natural gas reserves, at the Kuang North and Tukau Timar fields.

The Kuang North field – located in Block SK316 – was drilled by Petronas in October 2012 via two exploration wells, Kuang North-1 and Kuang North-2. The latter, drilled to a total depth of 10,574 feet (3,223 meters), penetrated 2,087 feet (636 meters) of gas column. Preliminary estimates indicated gas-in-place for the Kuang North field to be around 2.3 tcf.

The Tukau Timur field – sited on Block SK307 – was drilled by Petronas this year via the Tukau Timur Deep-1 well. The well, drilled to a depth of 15,847 feet (4,830 meters), discovered 12 gas bearing reservoirs with total net gas sand of 600 feet (183 meters). Preliminary estimates indicated gas-in-place for the Tukau Timur field to be around 2.1 tcf.

Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak said in a public address in September this year that he aims to establish the country as Asia's LNG trading hub by 2020 with the establishment of a $1.3 billion LNG terminal in the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex.

Petronas stated earlier in a published presentation in June that it aims to increase gas production offshore Sarawak to ensure that its LNG supplies to its customers in Japan, South Korea and China remains consistent.

THP, a wholly-owned subsidiary of pilgrims fund Tabung Haji, said the allegations made by a blogger were unsubstantiated, false and baseless.

“The allegation seems to be based on a March 2017 report by Australia Financial Review (AFR) that Crestmount Capital, a Middle Eastern fund run by Prince Khaled, son of Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, had closed an A$100 million investment into Piety Investments, a Sydney residential developer.

“THP indeed has several investments with the Piety Group in developing residential projects in Sydney.

“All investments are made directly by THP from internal funds. Under no circumstances has THP in the past or at any material point in time, sought or secured funds from Crestmount Capital or other external investors,” it said in a statement.

Al-Waleed was arrested on Saturday along with at least 10 other princes, four ministers and tens of former ministers.

Commercial bankers told Reuters yesterday that they believed the authorities were acting at the behest of the Saudi government, which has said it aims to recover illicit funds.

A blogger by the name of Ganesh Sahathevan claimed on Wednesday that Khaled had invested A$100 million in various property developments in Sydney, and that his partner in the ventures was THP.

“Given the fact of Al-Waleed’s corruption charge and the freezing of his assets, Tabung Haji’s role in laundering his money must be assumed,” Ganesh said in the post on realpolitikasia.blogspot.my.

However, THP said it had obtained all required regulatory approvals in Malaysia and Australia for its projects in Sydney.

“THP is not privy to any dealings (if any) between Crestmount Capital and Piety Group. The insinuation that Crestmount Capital funds are gained has been made by the blogger alone, for which he or she must bear sole responsibility,” it added.
