Kuala Lumpur, 26-05-2017 – Regional data solutions provider Kronologi Asia Berhad
(“Kronologi” or “the Group”), which is building a transnational network to support growing
demand for data back-up in the region, said today its net profit for the quarter ended 31
March 2017 (“Q1’17”) rose 48.8% to RM2.0 million.
Malaysia Bursa ACE-listed Kronologi said the growth in net profit was achieved on the back
of a 78.1% increase in revenue to RM25.2 million in Q1’17 from RM14.1 million a year ago,
and included contributions from a recently acquired subsidiary in India.
The year ending 31 December 2017 (“FY’17”) will be the first full financial year in which the
Group will recognise contributions from India, following the acquisition of former associate
Quantum Storage (India) Pte Ltd (“QSI”), now a wholly-owned subsidiary, in October 2016.
By geography, Singapore accounted for RM14.9 million or 53.8% of Group revenue before
intercompany elimination, followed by other South East Asian countries and India, which
recorded sales of RM6.6 million (24.0%) and RM2.0 million (7.2%), respectively.
The Group’s gross profit rose 33.0% to RM6.6 million in Q1’17 from RM4.9 million in Q1’16
despite a decline in Gross Profit Margin (“GPM”) to 26.1% from 34.9% over the same
comparative periods. The lower GPM was mainly due to the higher proportion of lowermargin
product mixes during the quarter.
Net profit increased 48.8% to RM2.0 million for Q1’17 compared to RM1.4 million a year ago.
Apart from higher revenue, the Group also recognised RM0.4 million of deferred tax assets
arising from temporary difference on unutilised capital allowance during the quarter.
Cash and bank balances increased to RM10.9 million as at 31 March 2017 from RM8.3
million as at 31 December 2016 following a net drawdown of borrowings of RM6.3 million as
well as purchase of property, plant and equipment of RM4.0 million during Q1’17.
Earnings per share (“EPS”) on a fully diluted basis rose to 0.74 sen for Q1’17 (Q1’16: 0.58
sen). Net asset value per share stood at RM0.19 as at 31 March 2017.
