Nevertheless, we think that this will not significantly impact TIV, given that the majority of EV models available in Malaysia are dominated by premium and luxury marques such as BMW, Mini and Porsche, with average selling prices of RM200k. However, this could incentivise other marques to introduce new EV models in Malaysia in the upcoming years.
In our view, Sime Darby could be a key beneficiary of the duty and tax exemption for EVs, given that it carries the most luxury marques with EV models under BMW,Mini and Porsche.

We believe that Sime Darby is in a GOOD position to ride on its principal partners’ EV product roadmap. For example, BMW Malaysia recently launched the new iX and iX3 SUV, on top of existing EV models like i3 and i8.

In a worst case scenario, we estimate the higher effective tax rate could affect UMW Holdings the most at 14-15% of FY22F EPS, followed by Bermaz at 3-4% of CY22F EPS and SIME DARBY at 1-2% of CY22F EPS.

SIME DARBY will be the LEAST impacted given that only 14% of the group’s PBIT were derived from Malaysia in FY6/20, while the remaining balance came from overseas operations.

A one-off additional company income tax was announced in Budget 2022, whereby earnings above the RM100 million mark will be taxed at a rate of 33%, instead of 24% for the first RM100 million.

Kelington records 11-fold hike in 2Q net profit on greater revenue contribution


KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 24): Kelington Group Bhd recorded an 11-fold jump in net profit to RM7.35 million in the second quarter ended June 30, 2021 (2QFY21), from RM623,000 a year earlier, on greater revenue contributions across its operating markets.

Earnings per share rose to 2.29 sen from 0.2 sen, the engineering solutions provider said in an exchange filing.

Quarterly revenue rose 63.43% to RM126.39 million, from RM77.33 million in 2QFY20, on the back of higher project completion in Malaysia, Singapore and China as well as improved performance from the industrial gases business.
