Congratulations to all the diehard Affinians still holding on to the stock. Affin never disappoints.

Personally, I am refraining from buying any stocks until there is a market correction. I believe the market has risen tremendously, and keeping the cash is safer.

@TheContrarian, how about the medium term?

My outlook for Affin for debate (I could be wrong of course):
We might see prices below MYR2.20 before climbing back again towards MYR3.
I have no plans to buy again unless I see prices below MYR2.20.

@speakup, religion has nothing to do with Islamic Banking. Many non Muslims and non Muslim institutions invest in Dubai Islamic Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and others. Infact, Islamic banking is being viewed as a legitimate alternative type of safe banking that is gaining momentum in non-Muslim societies. It is merely a financial concept despite it having "Islamic" in it's name.

Friends, I am already looking for alternative shares to buy with Affin still on my radar. I am open to suggestions.
2024-01-31 01:15 | Report Abuse
@moven00 Agreed. It's all about profit after all.

Thanks all, great points to consider. I already miss having Affin in my portfolio to be honest but I will have to be patient. Good luck to all of us.

@movennu, I respect your view but I disagree that there is a conspiracy against retailers. What happened is consistent with my 25 year experience in share investing. News > price movement > rumours > speculation > price hype > bubble explosion > settlement of price to reflect fundamentals.

@Bursino, that's very encouraging. I have always believed in Affin performance. My question is, the latest price performance justified or is it based on pure speculation. Are we, for example, going to see higher div payouts soon as a result?

The hype about the 3 O'clock announcement today was exaggerated hence I made the decision to sell and lock in profits. Yes, we are witnessing a new era for Affin, but we are still in the very very early days. My humble prediction (I could be wrong) is that we might return to below MYR 2.2 levels and might even touch MYR 2 levels before we proceed to MYR 3 levels. I welcome a good informative debate that can dispute my prediction.

Thanks TheContrarian. I really do wish all Affin shareholders the best of luck.

@TheContrarian, The saying goes: "Buy on rumour sell on news". The price has shot up alot already to the extent I start to believe the current fundamentals of the company cannot support it. I have an inkling that the price might go down after any announcement, I could be wrong but I am content with the profits I achieved so far.

Dear Affin comrades, for the sake of transparency, I just sold ALL of my Affin shares. Wishing you all the best of luck. If the price goes down to MYR 2 levels I will certainly buy again.

@hhhii123, read above.. I said that earlier. I have been reading Kenanga research for almost 10 years, most of the time it gave weird or manipulated TPs.

We are witnessing the birth of a new era for Affin Bank. Congrats to all diehard Affin investors.

@TheContrarian, As we all know, your words carry a heavy weight amongst Affin investors (at least on this page). Last week, you have been very bearish on Affin and explicitly saying factors point to a lower price ahead, but you quickly flipped to calling for a quick buy. I personally (and I am sure many here) respect your words and I believe you owe us an explanation of what happened.
2024-01-27 13:10 | Report Abuse
Glad to see the wider majority investors in Affin can see through it's real value which is way higher despite the disruptive side noise.
2024-01-26 23:50 | Report Abuse
I have never trusted Kenanga's TPs. That is after monitoring their research for over 10 years now. As for EPF, the urgency is urgent and cannot wait for any Sarawak deal or a target price. They need the money now, not tomorrow, hence they are selling. If it's a sign for anything, it's a sign that they are desperate. EPF is not supposed to be a daily trader, but a fund.
2024-01-26 18:06 | Report Abuse
@TheContrarian, since i have ever known Affin and EPF has always been selling. Nothing to see here
2024-01-24 23:27 | Report Abuse
Sarawak's foot is already in the door with it's 5%. 80% the deal will go through at some agreeable price.

Affin keeps on impressing.. one of the best investments I had. Especially the fact that they do DRPs is in itself and added value to the stock. I wish other companies had the same policy.
2024-01-17 17:45 | Report Abuse
I had an incling there was still way up to go.. congrats all. Affin is deserving at least MYR 3
2024-01-09 16:04 | Report Abuse
Long overdue for Affin's stock movement. MYR 3 should be the minimum, yet here we are. Congrats to my fellow Affin holders, especially those who held the stock for a very long time, and kept on accumulating.

Keyword: Overcapacity of steel manufacturing.
"The overcapacity in construction steel in Southeast Asia requires all stakeholders to work together. As at 2021, the capacity of steel production in Asean stood at 75.3 million tonnes, with Malaysia being the third largest producer with a capacity of 16.1 million tonnes, behind Vietnam and Indonesia.
Based on a South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI) analysis, the steel production capacity in Asean is expected to balloon to 147.2 million tonnes by 2026 as a result of the influx of foreign steel investments into the region, especially those from China.
This can be an issue of concern as we see a slowdown in the construction sector and the subsequent reduction in demand for steel from China. The capacity of China-owned steel firms in Southeast Asia is intended for export to China."
Yes the price of MYCRON might steel go up in the short term, but you will be like a Salmon fish trying to climb a waterfall.

@beluga, agreed that due diligence is important, but also absorbing market mentality which helps build a picture of direction is no less important to decision making. The past two weeks for example I was able through understanding UAE market mentality and emotions regarding the geopolitical situation in the middle east (Gaza) to collect excellent shares such as ENBD, DIB, NBAD, CBD and RAKBANK at very low prices. The market has now rebounded upwards. In Malaysia, I couldn't understand market direction and feel disconnected.
2023-10-31 19:15 | Report Abuse
Beluga, if that is really the case then it's good to prepare to buy more Affin in the near future. Unfortunately, I have lack of info and interaction amongst investors in Malaysia's stock market unlike other markets such as UAE.
I am really now thinking of liquidating my position and moving to a market where there is more interaction, especially between investors.

Where is this counter heading? Any good news about company performance?
Stock: [AFFIN]: AFFIN BANK BERHAD
2024-02-25 16:57 | Report Abuse
@beluga, Affin is a promising stock, but has gone up wildly in very short time. Also, as @TheContrarian mentioned before, the medium term outlook for Affin isn't so bright considering the costs the bank would endure after the Sarawak takeover due to opening new branches etc. Taking all that into account, I believe a price between RM 2 - 2.20 (FOR THE MEDIUM TERM) is a fair price. The long term price shouldn't be below RM3. The only thing going on currently is the nonstop hype and @LubeTrader's "hidden entity" conspiracy theories.. lol
