Laporan Utusan Malaysia baru-baru ini mendapati daripada sejumlah 8.5 bilion liter diesel subsidi yang diguna pakai oleh kenderaan komersial, 3.5 bilion liter telah disalahgunakan akibat aktiviti penyeludupan dan kegiatan mengaut untung keterlaluan termasuk melakukan urus niaga melalui cara gelap.

Statistik itu menunjukkan hanya 5 bilion liter digunakan secara betul atau dimanfaatkan tetapi dalam tempoh lima tahun kebelakangan ini, kerajaan terpaksa menanggung kerugian sebanyak RM1.2 bilion akibat sindiket penyeludupan petrol dan diesel subsidi.

25. From the example given, it proves that there is leakage and unfairness if the subsidy is given in bulk. Because those using the Kancil will enjoy a subsidy of 912 ringgit while those driving a Mercedes will enjoy a subsidy of 2,400 ringgit.
