He added that the vaccine only reduces the symptoms of Covid-19, but will not entirely stop someone from getting infected.

Maybank Kim Eng head of regional equity research Anand Pathmakanthan advised investors to hold onto glovemaker stocks as demand for gloves will not dramatically decline.

The glove sector is estimated to record an earnings growth of 120.2% this year, while the banking and finance sector will record an estimated earnings growth of 17.6%.

The average selling price (ASP) of rubber gloves is expected to remain robust in the next one-and-a-half to two years, since industry players are projecting a shortage in nitrile gloves that could possibly last until 2023 due to the shortage in raw material supply, MIDF Research said. The high raw material prices will lend support to the price of nitrile gloves, it said.

Thermo Fisher Scientific told customers in November, "our suppliers have advised us that they cannot guarantee product availability or pricing due to global raw material shortages and supply chain constraints." Fisher Scientific canceled open orders mid-December, raised prices and reintroduced the SKUs a few weeks later, with the ability to cancel open orders at any time and no contracted discounts.

Premier said gloves have been backordered for months, and even after implementing conservation protocols, they’re still one of the top supply chain challenges. The raw materials for nitrile gloves are in short supply, as are the ceramic molds to produce the gloves. In addition, Top Glove, the largest global nitrile glove producer, shut down 28 factories in November due to a COVID-19 outbreak in its staff.

Glove makers are expected to continue recording stronger quarters, backed by higher ASPs, increase in production capacity, and higher economies of scale.

Glove makers continue to highlight that their capacity is fully taken up until at least 1QCY22. Due to the supply shortage currently, we also gather that certain glove buyers are willing to lock-in large volume orders at a premium to current average selling prices (ASPs) to ensure sufficient glove supply next year.

Global glove demand is expected to grow 15-25% annually over the next two to three years on the back of higher usage and increased healthcare awareness.
