By mid Apr 2013, when MAS increases seat capacity on the route to about 25,000 return seats, there will be over 70,000 return seats in the Kuala Lumpur-Kota Kinabalu market.
Malindo will account for an 11% share of capacity between Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu for the week commencing 15/4/2013, compared to 54% for AA and 36% for MAS.
Just prior to Malindo’s launch on 22/3/2013, MAS accounted for a 36% share of capacity while AirAsia accounted for 64%.
But back in Jan-2013, prior to AirAsia adding one daily flight for a total of 15, MAS captured a 38% share and AirAsia accounted for 62%.
Care now folks as KUL-KK route is the 12th largest route within Southeast Asia. Revenue for AA & MAS on this route will sure be affected.

Folks, from a wider market perspective, Lion's entry into Malaysia almost certainly signals the sprouting of a new pan-Asian low priced competitor, something that will tilt the balance again.

Says Nalin R Khanna, president, Vertebrand, a brand consultancy firm, "One cannot create a brand identity on the basis of just the gap in the market. There needs to be a definitive differentiator in the value proposition of the company."
He draws his suggestions from the company's business plans for the Indian market. The airline has announced they would avoid the Mumbai-Delhi circuits to keep the operational costs low, concentrating on Tier-II and Tier-III towns instead.
"In the small sectors, a cause of concern for the fliers is the absence of an assurance that the said flight will even take off.
Look at the busier airports and there are multiple flights at different times during the day. Smaller airports have less cluttered flightboards.
There may even be a single flight taking off in a day. And, if that doesn't happen, one is stuck. AAsia can build itself as a reliable player that will ensure operational efficiency," says Khanna
Operational efficiency!? Can AA achieve this?

Folks, that AAsia will fly the domestic skies is old news.
The question everyone watching the company's India story unfold is asking is simple: What will the airline stand for? In a market that has its own share of low-cost carriers (LCCs) such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, Jet Airways' Jet Lite and GoAir, providing the lowest airfare is simply not sufficient. There needs to be something more.
Earlier this week, SpiceJet's Chief Executive Officer Neil Mills had said, "Airlines in India are not allowed to charge a fee for baggage or preferential seats.
The Aircraft Rules of 1937 do not allow it." He was referring to AAsia's reliance on ancillary revenue. The airline will have to look at creating a distinctive identity to compensate for the absence of this ancillary-revenue stream.
So how?

Folks, existing carriers in India argue the market is already oversaturated, with competition among multiple carriers driving fares down to unsustainable levels.
Fernandes is pitching a business model under which his airline would forego the high-traffic Delhi-Mumbai route and focus instead on connecting second- and third-tier cities to tap into potential traffic rather than existing traffic.
However, it seems the key aspects that have made AAsia successful in the East, are all aspects that don’t play in India.
One, fuel is not taxed in Malaysia, unlike India.
Two, in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, AirAsia flies to low-cost terminals. But in India there are no such terminals.
And three, a dense regulatory framework and excessive government intervention are also going to be new challenges.
So how now, folks?

Folks, AAsia plans on only selling tickets online in order to save on payments to sales agents and may also replicate its home model of charging a fee for services including baggage check-in, preferred seats and hot meals.
While the objective is to cut costs to ensure the success of its low-cost model in India too, it remains to be seen how this AAsia plans on reducing its fuel cost, taxes or airport charges, which is same for all airlines and one of the primary reasons why they are all bleeding today (except for IndiGo).

Folks, AAsia is planning a big bang entry into India by the fourth quarter of 2013, but the big question is can it get it right in a sector where several other low-cost players have burned their fingers by trying to play the fare-war strategy?
According to a report in Bloomberg, AirAsia wants to give away vacant seats for free at airports with passengers only having to pay fee and other taxes in order to tap into India’s one billion population.
In India, however, about 70-80% of tickets are sold through offline agents and portals. So how now?

Buy low and sell high is the ultimate guide to successful stock investing. It is also the reverse of what many investors do.
It’s not that investors start out to do that, but too often, they use price, and in particular price movement, as their only signal to buy or sell.
Stocks that have gone up recently, especially those with a lot of press, often attract even more buyers. This obviously drives the price up even higher.
Folks, people get excited about what they read and see and want a part of the action. They jump into a stock that is already trading at a premium – they buy high.

Folks, because of the coming GE the market's volatility might be making you want to say, "Sell it all. I'll sit this out until things calm down."
One must remember that when stocks are pushed way past their true value, they are often set up for a fall worst still with the uncertainties of the coming GE. The strategy is to sell when they are over valued and buy them back after a market correction has knocked the price back down.
This, of course presumes an accurate knowledge of the top and bottom of prices – something very few of us are particularly good at with any consistency.
Selling an over-valued stock is certainly preferable to buying an over-valued stock. Just be prepared to watch it keep going up after you sell, as happens sometimes. Remember folks, don’t second-guess yourself; it could have more easily gone the other way.
