Supermax currently exports 58% of production under its own brands via its own distribution centres and 40% through independent distributors. The remaining 2% is for original equipment manufacturer production.

Its products are sold to over 165 countries, with the largest contributor being the Americas region which contributed 51% of revenue for FY20. Asia/Oceania and Europe each contributed 23% to its FY20 revenue.

The world will continue to face a glove shortage until 2023, said former MARGMA president Denis Low Jau Foo, given that manufacturers are currently still in an “oversold” position.

He also said average selling prices (ASPs) of gloves will not see a sharp decline because the majority of glove producers today, which have big government contracts, are facing difficulty in fulfilling the demand.

Prices of gloves are still rising in 2021 even with vaccination campaigns under way around the world.
Every single month, the price of gloves has gone up. It’s a nice moneymaking opportunity if you’re a manufacturer.

Thanks to cheap labor and a quirk of geography—natural rubber and the chemicals that make synthetic rubbers like nitrile are mainly produced in Asia—the glove market is dominated by companies in Southeast Asia. That means it’s nearly impossible for countries outside the region to make enough gloves domestically, as they did for masks and gowns.

“We are very concerned about this convergence of a potential false sense of security due to the rollout of vaccines, the emergence of new variants, and the impact of holiday-season travel. Our first line of defence against the virus remains our individual behaviour. Beyond this, the ability of Governments to take swift actions based on scientific evidence is also key to slowing down the pandemic.

The U.S. is in a delicate position as Covid cases increase alongside vaccinations, experts warn

Daily Covid-19 cases are increasing once again after months of declines, a troubling sign as more Americans let down their guard, experts say.

More transmissible virus variants could lead to more cases, hospitalizations and deaths among those without access to a vaccine, they warn.

The ongoing emergence of new variants behave almost like new viruses. A clinical vaccine trial in South Africa showed that people in the placebo group who had previously been infected with one strain had no immunity against its mutated descendant and became reinfected. There are similar reports from parts of Brazil that had massive outbreaks and subsequently suffered renewed epidemics.

Even with the vaccine the virus is "not going away", says Sir Jeremy Farrar, a member of the government's Sage advisory group.

It is, he says, now part of humanity and here to stay. Instead, the most we can hope for is providing some protection to those who are most at risk.

The sad reality is that, despite the vaccine breakthrough, we are still going to have to learn to live with Covid this winter - and beyond.
