Thks for sharing my layman's view of the interest rate vs stock mkt scenario. Would further like to discuss bro Rchi's view on negative impact of funds flow on the market due to rate hike. In fact in Msian mkt context, he has rightly pointed out this phenomenon as can be seen from the outflows of funds over the last several months. This probably caused the flattish performance of CI stocks but becos its gradual, we dun see any credit crunch situation hitherto, BNM even postponed the increase of benchmark rate recently. Funds flow out from emerging mkts probably to US to enjoy potentially higher rates, strong usd & corporate profits. Eventually a stronger US overall will translate into trade benefits for the emerging mkt like Msia but short term how far & how deep this funds outflow will affect our mkt? No doubt BNM will also hike rates in tandem with US, a mitigating factor?

One answer is if the specter of market calamity is not forthcoming from rate hikes, but against a lackluster market environment, investing in a rare gem like KSL is still a pretty sensible move to preserve if not to grow our wealth :))

@Spidee, I am trying to say that rate rise is inevitable, can be earlier if wages rise leading to higher inflation, but may not cause market to drop sharply...

@Spidee, based on my level understanding of economics, I think you have a good grasp of the overall situation esp the divergence btw Euro region & American interest rates cannot be too big thereby low interest rates in Europe could constrain rapid rise of rates in America. Then rising wages in America may lead to inflation thus warranting rate rise is all in a normal cycle as long as it is gradual & matched by growing economy & personal incomes. Furthermore, the world used to enjoy good times when interest rate was above 5%, so as long as the increase is gradual, 3-4% is not excessive I think. Coupled with Fed's skillful engineering of things e.g. deliberately leaking out intended policy changes for market to adjust way before actual implementation thus preempting any shocks to the market. How the fund flows & credit scenario will be affected & any systemic problem arising, I have no clue, but I believe they will also adjust accordingly. Phewww, a billion dollar matter, only a 2-cent view from a small timer, hahahaha.

For your information, I bot into KSL & may continue to collect if the price remains attractive with at least a 2-year view, barring any global disaster. Assuming all the current & projected facts & figures are correct & reliable, i feel there is great value to be gained over the next 2 years, including the possibility of them doing reit on their investment property. What the heck if I have bot a few cents higher or lower or the current price swings are due to some short term reasons that only the big 'hand' will know. I am absolutey convinced the owners are expending every effort to get the best fair value for their shares over a reasonable period of time, being the largest stakeholder here. Am I also sure they welcome value investors like us to ride along. Shaking out short term investors is normal part of a plan to build a sustainable uptrend price. I remain committed in a balanced investment portfolio, no sai lang la.

@bro rchi,further to our last discussion on rising interest rates affecting markets, juz read an article that implies yesterday's Dow performance is increasingly 'peeling' away from the equation: interest rate increase = market drop. The strong employment data(despite no increase in wages yet) is heightening prospects of rate hike expected in mid 2015 or earlier. But yesterday's rise of >1% in Dow demonstrates growth in economy, employment & wage level will overcome gradual & moderate rate- hike fears. Lets hope this is the trend.

SS661M, may I add that,in the context of Malaysian market, there is generally no dilution in the value of your holding of the stocks per se. But the per share value is being adjusted to smaller value ex bonus issue thereby making it more affordable for investors to buy and thus more liquidity for share trading. Perhaps in this way the fair value of the share can be more easily achieved. A share's high price, even though it cheap, can be deterrent to the small investors.

Aiya bro ST, juz like you, I am a strategic investor ma, not a tactical trader. As long as I set my sight on the value of this KSL gem, I choose not to be distracted by its daily swings. Traders hoping for a quick gain on announcement of bonus issues whatnot will be disappointed in view of the current weak mkt sentiment, so be prepared to pick up the generous bonus issues & ride on the attractive dividends to be paid out over time. KSL's adoption of DRP underscores its attractive earnings growth trend, otherwise why would they waste their time on this. No doubt we will eventually enjoy the fair value of PE 10Xs &above.
