Tessa, sorry to hear about your losses.Found this article about why one should NEVER invest in SPACs like Hibiscus.
Posted by kcchongnz > Oct 4, 2013 12:35 PM | Report Abuse
Did I miss Hibiscus? How could I when I don't give a damn to this Selling Promises And Craziness (SPAC)?
Posted by Fortunebull > Oct 3, 2013 08:45 PM | Report Abuse
KCChongnz! You miss hibiscus as hiddengem!
Let us see how the fortune teller classified as GEM.
Since listing Hibiscus has been making losses. No revenue, still looking for qualified assets acquisition. While looking for QA, spent million for investment bankers, millions for administrative expenses, millions for financing costs, millions in "other expenses" etc. How not to make losses?
As at June 2013, accumulated losses is 20m! A gem? OMG!
Actually this is expected. SPACs are murder holes.
Think about it!
1) Would a promising company need to do deal or merge with SPAC, or rather it just go public through a IPO on its own merits?
2) SPAC no doubt has some seemingly successful business people behind them. Are you sure they too will succeed in this new ventures? Or they were successful because of luck or through other people? I tend to believe more of the later.
3)Those early birds whose cost is so much lower will unload in droves once listed, leaving those poor retail investors holding the hot potato.
4) Investment bankers will be laughing to the banks with your money. They pay themselves multiple times:
a) When they take it public
b) Consultant to the SPAC on retainer as a potential acquisition is sought.
c)When an acquisition is found
d) The one year process when SPAC is seeking shareholders and regulator approvals.
Fees, fees, fees, an ATM machine for the investment bankers. Guess whose money in the ATM machine?
What is the stories behind Hibiscus? I don't even want to hear.

Prolexus has good growth in revenue and earnings for the recent past few years. It is also not expensive. Below is what I have commented before on it. Since then its price has gone up considerably when you take into its adjusted price. I think the fundamentals still remain the same.

Prolexus A growth stock?
The table below shows the 6 years revenue and earnings of Prolexus for the financial years ending 30th June. It doesn’t show that it is a high growth company in terms of revenue. It made losses in 2006 through 2008. However, after the disposal of some loss making investment in 2008, Prolexus made a turnaround. Its revenue grew at a CAGR of 8% from 2009 to 2012. Its EBIT surged by 45% a year for the three years from 2009 to 2012. The growth in EBIT and net income last year was 90% and 80% respectively. That would qualify Prolexus as a high growth company. Thanks to the growth in its garment manufacturing.
Year 2012 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006
Revenue 189498 184464 136875 149998 166774 181527 174840
EBIT 11213 5886 6601 3694 -149 -2958 -1066
Net Income 10568 4906 3403 262 -2892 -5869 -1976
Prolexus closed at 1.33 on 9th April 2013. With a EPS of 28 sen per share, the PE ratio is about 5 (<<10), PEG is also very low at 0.2(<<1), a P/B of 0.9 (<1.5), and a dividend yield of 2.3%. Hence Prolexus is not only a growth stock, it is also a value stock in every aspect.
A high growth stock has a major concern; that is if the growth adds value to the firm. Growth is considered shareholder value enhancing if the growth in earnings exceeds the weighted average cost of capital of the firm. With a return of total capital of 15.2% and ROE of 16.2% last year, it has clearly demonstrated that the growth is shareholder value enhancing.
For the half year ending 31/12/2012, Prolexus has already made a net profit of 22.3 sen per share, 64% more than the same period the previous year.
So is Prolexus a free lunch for investors; one with high growth and yet selling at a very cheap price?

Bjtoto pays dividends every qtr whereas Latitud only once every year.Besides it would be more accurate to compare companies in the same industry i.e Bjtoto vs Magnum,Latitude vs Homeriz or Maybank vs CIMB.

Not dumping, fund managers need to re adjust their portfolio every year. They sell some stocks and use it to pay dividends to shareholders, prchase other stocks.Anyway they long term major shareholders of AeonCr so no worries.
