Oil & gas may be the next big thing

KUALA LUMPUR: Oil and gas could be the next big thing for stock market players, in the remaing five months of the year, after the influential research firm, CIMB Investment Research said that a number of oil and gas companies were poised to register record earnings this year.

In a report late last week, CIMB Research said oil and gas companies such as Dialog Group Bhd, Perisai Petroleum Bhd, SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd, Wah Seong Corp Bhd and Bumi Armada Bhd are expected to post their record high earnings this year.

Much of the research house optimism is tied to Petroliam Nasional Bhd's (Petronas) plan to boost output by developing new and marginal fields.

As early as last month, Petronas had announced that it plans to invest up to RM300 billion over the next five years, or up to RM60 billion a year, to develop new fields, and initiatives to develop marginal fields.

This is higher than the RM34.9 billion it invested during the financial year ended March 31, 2011.

Thus far this year, collectively the major publicly traded oil and gas companies have marginally out performed the key index.

Oil and gas counters on the average have appreciated by seven per cent this year, on a weighted average basis as opposed to the 6.8 per cent jump for the local bourse.

as long as no greedy syndicate players comes in to disturb and market makers are in it for good then we might see a real rally on this counter. It all depends on who is in the drivers seat. Ironically the syndicate can also be a market maker and vice-versa.

Hi Ooi Teik Bee, my question would be is the technical analysis flat out correct/ accurate on any given stock or is there chances of it going wrong ( what is the percentage if I may ask is it's accuracy on any given stock). Company like Amedia is driven by a solid FA and why does the TA gives a contradicting reading ( from a laymen point of view that is). Thanks.

Hi TuaHuat, I know that if you get any previlleged information then it would be inside trading and against any stock exchange ruling, what I meant (mistake on my side)was to ask if there is any news that they have released to the bursa(again news that is meant for the general public) and that which haven't reach the retail investors yet...that's all..anyway thanks for highlighting it.

ryanc...most of this guys out there 'acting' like they know everything under the sun actually are blur sotongs who are basically emotionally driven/failures and they try hard to pass on their mistakes to others...if you are well informed they can't sell their eggs to you. I think the big guys are in again at the current price movement...and will probably pull the price down back to 0.31...before they actually push it up, if AMEDIA gets into main market officially.
