Brother @stkoay, surprised to see you here. didnt know you also have PBB in pocket too. Anyway, if PBB drops below RM4.00 will be very good price to collect more. PBB seems like a hidden gem now since low price. maybe a lot of speculators now afraid of bank ownership direction given founders demise. But i personally feel that the bank will continue to do well even whatever shareholding mix as the managers are well trained, at least in the short term. only possible change would be management direction on future dividend payout policy.

IMO Its risky to buy plantation as it is very volatile and given the wide swings in commodity prices is not for the faint hearted e.g. demand for Palm Oil etc. It is also dependant on external factors like other countries output. Banking on the other hand is more anticipated especially when BNM's directive is more predictable (more often then not following the Fed Reserve - thats bcos MY external debt borrowing more often than not borrow in US Dollar). Hence I believe investing in Banking especially in Harimau being the largest banking group in Malaysia would be a more safer bet as with other established banking stocks compared to Plantation stocks.

only 2 stocks in my portfolio which has similar high returns. MBB and YTL POWER, between 6% - 7%

Banking stocks are tied to the country's economy. the more development, the more the bank makes and share price perform. in a recovering economy like ours post Covid. it's a no brainer than MBB among the few are the go to stocks for good returns and investments

forget about ASN. every year returns drop. while EPF conventional is higher than the Syariah due to ability to invest in Din stocks and hence higher returns, ASN is totally opposite. I am now waiting for April for last dividend before turning over my units.

I dun understand how anyone can lose money in the long term if one subscribes to DRIP. the free shares will slowly but surely reduce average cost of shares lower each time you max your DRIP subscription.
why some investors lose money is bcos they blindly follow so called investing strategy like dollar cost average like what is being told by unit trust agents to their customers. while dollar cost works best in a falling share price, this is not advisable in the rising price scenario (for obvious reasons). At the end of the day its all about averaging down your costs.
99% of those who lose money in stocks are speculators who have knee jerk reaction to small temporary price changes. what goes down will eventually comes up (after a few days - usually la) so no point panic and sell when you will eventually recover. some of the sifus here invested close to a few million ringgit. they are not losing sleep anytime soon so they must be doing something right then, agree?

I think today limit up. old man stingy keeping dividend. maybe new replacement will give more dividend :-)
2022-12-01 08:06 | Report Abuse
why surprise dividend? suppose every year also 2 times dividend (except 2020 which is Covid19). the 4 sen dividend total 12 sen for the year is average at best - 2021 its 15.2 sen, 2020 its 13 sen. i really wish PBB can pay a little higher. but i think overall the bank performance only average at best. even my investment in public mutual funds and public PRS from POSITIVE last year to NEGATIVE this year. really lousy performance. regretted investing into PM. the downside in PBB is that most of the bank's income is from Malaysia. since the local economy currently sux, not much profitability. they should diversify some more to other country like other banks to capitalize on growth

....In the distribution phase, sellers are trying to gain the upper hand. The horizontal trading range in this phase will display lower price tops and a lack of higher bottoms. The markdown phase is a time of greater selling. It’s confirmed when prices break below the established lows of the trading range. Once this fourth and final phase of the Wyckoff market cycle finishes, the entire cycle will repeat itself....
The trick is to be ready to ready when the price have bottomed out before the upswing 'cycle' begins once more.. just stand by your excess funds when they do. based on the above, I actually parked at 1.54 for IGBREIT based on historical lows and I managed to grab some lots last week before the climb due to dividend anouncement. just sharing that historical charts can be helpful IMO. meanwhile, gud luck all!

No worries, non taken. Like all the others here, we are just interested in the money, nothing personal. we share ideas so that even if we can learn something new or take away something from this, it will be beneficial to us. all of us just want to make money to survive.

This morning Harimau shares suddenly up but look at the Buy Rate, it was 78%, true enough as I type this the price dropped back down due to heavy sell off back to 53%.
Just sharing some ideas to others here which I learned from my IB analyst is the 'wyckoffian' logic....
....Wyckoff’s observations of supply and demand, and that the prices of securities move in a cyclical pattern of four distinct phases. Investors and traders use Wyckoff’s market cycle to identify a market’s direction, the likelihood of a reversal, and when large investors are accumulating and selling positions.
The Wyckoff market cycle phases are accumulation, markup, distribution, and markdown. Essentially, the phases represent the behavior of traders and can reveal the direction of a stock’s future price movement.
Generally speaking, the accumulation phase forms as institutional investors increase their buying and drive demand. As more interest develops, the trading range displays higher lows as prices position themselves to move higher. With buyers gaining power, prices push through the upper level of the trading range. At this Markup phase, a chart will show a consistent upward trend.
In the distribution phase, sellers are trying to gain the upper hand.
I do use the RSI (relative strenght index) to see the buying momentum when am about to invest in a stock which has helped me a bit in the past if anyone is interested.

@DickyMe2 chill bro, I do not think I am always right. This sharing of ideas was started due to you saying that Malaysia will enter into recession next year. then you change to technical recession. after that you attacked my opinion saying that the trends cannot be used to be proven. Instead of calling me names and getting angry, counter my views with facts and figures and I am more than happy to learn if I am wrong. at least then in the eyes of everyone here you will be respected instead of just being someone who spews out nonsense all the time under different user names. #justsaying

Okay bro if you insist. investment bankers don't want to be sued so all sorts of conditions la. But interestingly when they try to sell you some products. they always show you the prospectus of a fund performance for last 3-5-10 years, they never fail to show you the historical chart. funny la, if they don't believe that history has a way to show the possible future trend, i wonder why they so eager to show you the trend. but you are entitled to your own beliefs and conclusions bro. up to you if you want to believe or not, at the end of the day, it's your money, your decision.

Bro, cannot cherry pick your points la.. Economy is based on Science. I this case it's social science (if you had done Economics at pre-U / University, you would know). Why is it a science? Bcos all conclusions and prediction of outcome of future events are based on historical data, this means it can be proven. Anything can be tested and proven time again is science.

read somewhere that some analysts are saying they will probably increase next year due to the upcoming election. hopefully la... especially for those of us who still have outstanding housing loan hahah.. also my personal observation is that from past trend, the last 2 months of the year usually slower and I don't expect much action... as foreign fund managers going off for the long winter holidays.. it will however pick up again the following year just nice before the next dividend (unless the US rate hikes again). there's also the upcoming election too to dampen the mood

just a side comment, do know that market plunge before an election is normal. this is due to knee jerk reaction from fund managers who dont want to take risk due to uncertainty and possibly have a bad report at the end of the year, thats why a lot of them sell off when they 'hear' rumours... remember for us retailers we also have the saying, buy on rumours and sell on news kan? the trick is do slowly invest in the BUSINESS and when averaging down your portfolio prices, make sure the drop in price is 'worth' the amount of money you put in to lower down the price. DO NOT BE GREEDY and put all your cash into the stock at the perceive lowest price at the spure of the moment. it can go lower than the historical data charts.
All it takes is an analyst to say that the TP is now way lower, this will spark the herd mentality driving prices below the lowest dip in the last decade e.g. Maybank analyst suddenly change TP for Magnum from 1.70 to 1.58, caught a lot of retailers off guard. It has not recovered after dropping as low as 1.38 and currently at 1.45.
best to proceed with caution and collect slowly but surely... remember....
When you have money, you have time (to choose), the opposite may not necessary be the same
