Why FIC bought IRIS in the 1st place:

Strategic Investment
One of the key areas of Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC) is Strategic Investment, an area that is committed to meet any one of these criteria:

To generate superior investment returns for FIC;
To enhance the value of investee companies; and
To create industry experts and develop a synergy within Felda Group of Companies
In the pursuit of making this a reality, FIC is willing to go to great lengths to ensure that the above objectives are met via various investment approaches, namely direct investments in companies, creating joint venture entities, strategic alliances, indirect investments through fund management companies or any other viable strategic options. FIC is currently concentrating on companies in the growth stage or those in the attractive industries that are backed with strong track record and have high potential to further develop.

The investment objectives and approaches are made using the following strategies:

Investment made purely based on achieving financial objective that would steer the company to greater level of success. Generally, FIC would hold this type of investment as a strategic shareholder with minimal interference on its operations.
Investment made to add values to the company by creating synergies with other businesses within the FELDA group of companies. In this condition, FIC would be the company’s substantial shareholder, where it controls the company by holding position(s) in the Board of Directors and is actively involved in key management and operational matters.
To date, FIC has successfully completed the following acquisitions:

IRIS CORPORATION BERHAD
Status: Listed Company
Sector: Technology
Date of Acquisition: 6 November 2013
Capital invested: RM 145 million
Ownership: 25.8% (as at 22 Aug 2014)
Company description: Incorporated in 1994, IRIS has grown its business from being the first company in Asia to set up fully integrated manufacturing facilities for Contact and Contactless Smart Cards, Contactless Document Inserts and assembled Module in Tapes and Reels to other extended area of business including but not limited to property development, farming business and environmental solutions.

Iris' substantial shareholder is not FGV ( Felda) . Its FIC - Felda Investment Corporation - a strategic investment holding. These 2 are very different entities. All FIC has is $$$$$! No worries ;)

That's caused by general market down trend. Limited downside, actually.

Already a month, price hovered around 20 sen despite -15% being wiped of djia. What does that hint to u, if u r observant? Actually, blessing in disguise for new batch of investors like us being given golden opportunity to pick up cheap.

And if u guys insists it will go down to 16 sen or less, then all things being equal, many many other penny stocks half or quarter it's price ( most don't even have project/much profit, not to mention better management will surely belly up. During deep recessions, whichev r counter u buy will not do well la, not just Iris... )

Again, not a buy call. Just my analysis.

PETALING JAYA: Effective next year, private construction project which cost more than RM50 million, and more than RM10 million for government projects, will be required to be implemented using the Industrialised Building Systems (IBS).

Billgate007,since cheques already presented to schools, I supposed the schools will have to pay Iris direct.

The news I posted reads:

The six schools are SK Pulau Seduku, SMK Sebuyau, SK Nanga Pua, SK Kampung Tanam, SK Kalok Pusa and SK Abang Man, at a cost of about RM2mil each.

Chong presented cheques for RM8.595mil for 184 Chinese primary schools, RM2.88mil for 10 Chinese conforming secondary schools and RM17.2mil for 124 mission schools in Sarawak.

I found this. Thought i share out. It would be nice if tsj wins come June 2016. Malaysians only appreciate and respect own local talents after they get recognition overseas. Sad but true.

http://www.ey.com/MY/en/Newsroom/News-releases/News-2015-Datuk-Tan-Say-Jim-named-EY-EOY-2015-Malaysia
Excerpts:
Datuk Tan, who also won the Master Entrepreneur category award, will go on to represent Malaysia and join more than 60 other country winners to compete for the coveted EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) award at the annual WEOY event in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June 2016.

A tireless humanitarian, philanthropist and all-round ‘ideas guy’, Datuk Tan has touched millions of lives around the world by seamlessly blending disparate technologies to bring to life many useful solutions to everyday problems. From creating electronic passports and electronic identification 20 years ago to investing in agriculture and introducing a flat pack emergency home built-in-a-day, he has been steadily changing the way people think and do things.

YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry said, “Entrepreneurs play a vital role in driving the country towards achieving our vision of becoming a developed nation by 2020. We need bolder and more innovative entrepreneurs to contribute in charting our country’s growth, especially against the backdrop of global economic uncertainty. Malaysian entrepreneurs must also take advantage of our regional economic integration initiatives such as the ASEAN Economic Community to expand their footprint and actively participate on the regional and global stage.”
