no hard and fast rule for me here. buy when i have more money coming in and think the upside is intact. Sell if fundamentals weakens considerably. Live to fight another day!

You write good scjm3. I think no tapering because yelen won't be seen as lame duck when barely two weeks ago she signaled there is no tapering. She can't have her incoming deputy calling the shots now! Anyway, read between the line and see he is merely suggesting a small amount of tapering and if inflation is not met, the status quo (ie 85b stimulus) stays!
Not too sure what is the computation you are saying! Will give my two-bits whenever possible!

you got to remember that without market share, AA could be dead in less than a year, due to their overwhelming debt. but for them to come out profitable yet again, quarter after quarter, it stands as testament to their ability to manage cost!
the expansion and IPOs are just bonuses to things to come! :)

it is not a question of fighting, but maintaining market share! MAS tried the low-cost structure route, and got badly burnt. Let's see what they do next!

but.... but...... you know lah! LOL

MAS is the "enemy", not Malindo! that one just a gnat, irritant! maybe 5 years down the line Malindo can be a challenger. but currently.....
incidentally, new boy just appeared in Taiwan, partnering SIA.

then don't go to expensive one. Search other lands or wait out offers! if the offer is no good, walk away. Let Mr Market come back to you with an offer so good, you cannot refuse! He won't get angry if you refuse as he is that stupid sometimes! woman usually are better investors because they usually know a good bargain than most! that's why a book came out (duhh...) that warren invests like a woman! :)

the statement is technically correct although i am not too sure its 6 month for countries that has reached their so-called better "market efficiency"
there is an article i read not too long ago about an investor in Thailand (i think) that was having returns far outstripping Buffett's by a wide margin. the investor however acknowledged that it was due to market inefficiency rather than US' efficiency as a comparison basis!
so.... your statement is a general rule, but not necessary true in every sense!

not a problem scjm3. we are here to share! however, now it intrigues me why bank would wanna lend Jaks. is it because of the ministry's tender won and they needed capital? or could it be target of takeover, whereby current management wants to sapu as much cash as they can? some knowledge of the quality of the management should also never be far from an investor's mind.
pertinent questions which requires knowledge of their business!
@connie, that's why i said intoxicating! :) one can be sherlocks homes if if he wants to at any counter he covers! hehe

* maybe its wise to mark the price last friday for future comparison
Scomien - 0.40
Guoco - 1.04

* note the change
-in a capital intensive business, one quarterly loss will hit it hard (although "PE" fall below its 5-years low currently )

hi sjm3, here's preliminary observations from blogs and numbers. i am trying to find some more news later. in the mean time need to take a break.
positives
- potential catalyst in takeover news
- 7 quarterly earnings (reading OTB's assessment). seems to be turning around or it is earnings padded to increase it's book value (for takeover purposes)?
- however, p/b still undervalued, NTA is reasonable for a manufacturing industry sector.
risk
-ROA, ROE and ROI on low side. could probably improve if the quarterly results are maintained.
-in a capital intensive business, one quarterly loss will hit it hard (although fall below its 5-years low currently )
-earning may not be strong yet, as the last major contract secured will only see completion in 2017
-still struggling/unable to meet its loans obligation
-outstanding material litigations still
from preliminary observation, this stock is not a value play, but that of speculation now. i believe the 51-52 sens has currently factored the news of the recently won ministry of Green, Red and Blue contract but if a takeover news comes, of course the sky's the limit! TA's world now! :)
