What is 2016 market theme? Crude oil is only expected to stabilise at 40. Not strong enough to be a theme. Rm is strengthening but only expected to stabilise at 3.9x. Not much surprise. Market losses direction?

Hi, singray. I read in Focus PETRONAS won't award any contract as long as crude oil bellow usd60. I m sure if 60 is the cost or 60 is the figure tat give them acceptable margin. Pls correct me but dun laugh at me.

Duit. PETRONAS's cost is $60. Even $42.58 they still have to scale down operation, rite? The poor local mid & downstream o&g companies must compete with foreign companies to get overseas job. My strategy is to look for companies with some forex gain in their financial statements. This proof tat they're capable to get overseas job. M I on the rite track?

Most index stocks r green. Most SME stocks r red. I guess nothing wrong with the co. It's just money flowing from 1 direction to the others. I opine resin price will remain low & USD will remain strong. I m just a layman.

Don't just focus of micro. Broad market is important. Don't you notice recently good QR fails to boost share price? Those cold storage stocks shoot up one by one. I don't know about you all but I don't feel comfortable.

For property dev co compare property dev cost & CFO. If there is plenty of FCF but very low property dev cost that's mean it's hit severely by property downcyle (no new project). Conversely, if FCF is low but property dev cost increases that's mean it's sale is good & launching more projects. For manufacturing businesses, negative CFO indicates buildup of receivable, inventory or increasing capex. For property dev co one must interprets it differently.

Shall we consider the following factors:
1. Cyclical stocks. If the business is cyclical in nature there's no point to keep it if it's overvalued. Downturn is usually around the corner once it reached the peak.
2. Economic moat. For businesses that have foreseeable economic moat, keeping the winners is reasonable.
3. Alternative investment. After a few years for supernormal growth, it's inivitable to revert to mean. Under this circumstance we can invest in newcomers in the same industry, provide the industry is still bullish.

In order to do the above, one should have board reading, and have interest in both macro and micro economy. One should be alert and aware to business trend and changes.
