QR is out. Improvement in the EPS. This year's quarter is 4.24 sens compared to 2.4 sens same quarter last year. EPS last 4 quarters is now 25.86 sens. Current PE is a mere 8.12.

That is good news and its unscheduled. Still waiting for the QR.

Hopefully a good quarter is the catalyst we need.

Alex, I do not see how this can be the case. The volume is dwindling and the daily gains are nothing to shout about. Anyway, here is hoping for a good quarter.

Looking good. I think a good quarter is in store.

I like your analysis. I think it is not impossible that (baring any surprises) the EPS this coming quarter could be as high as 5 to 6 sens. This compares very well against the last year's same quarter of 2.4 sens. Assuming 5.5 sens, Pohuat's whole year EPS could be RM0.27. A PE ratio of 9.5 could mean short term target price of RM2.57.

Odds are this quarter will be much better compared to the same quarter last year.

Anyone know why the profits slumped? OKA has succeeded 10 quarters out of 12 quarters to increase its profits. Unfortunately this quarter is 1 out of the 2. I looked at the report. It does not say much, my guess is directors fees. Anyone know more?

A10 sen drop is no joke. Aside from the announcement of the 11 MDP I cannot see a good reason why this has happened. Let's hope it recovers.

Turnaround confirmed : )

Looks like a turnaround.

That US denominated loan part is sheer nonsense. This is a traditional Chinese business with hardly any loan and a huge amount of cash in the bank to more than pay any amount owed a few times over.

LY the same number was 37.7% borrowing /total asset so 33.6% is already a huge improvement. I would not take BIMB's report seriously but that's just my point of view.

OK its a Shariah compliant company.
2015-05-08 18:11 | Report Abuse
Its probably a no big deal. Its just BIMB Securities coming out with a report saying that HSCB could be taken off the Syariah compliant list. Its NOT a fact. Its not even speculation. Tabung Haji has not said anything about this. I remember discussing about this before last year and it just went away. In fact I always assumed that HSCB cannot and has never being Syariah compliant because it has a credit giving subsidiary. Anyway 33.6% is a rough calculation and as HSCB is a profitable company, given time the number will reduced to compliant...so where is the problem?? Stay rational.
2015-05-08 17:42 | Report Abuse
I looked up the latest quarterly report and indeed, Hapseng is a borderline 33.6% borrowing /total asset (so whats the big deal?). HSCB also has RM500 million in cash so I do not think liquidity is a issue.
I also tried to find the biggest 30 shareholders but could not find it in the latest annual report 31/12/2014. Do any of you folks know a source? I know the owner owns close to 75%.
I see this as a "flash in the pan" situation. As usual the market has over reacted and someone is looking to fleece unsuspecting shareholders off their HSCB shares. The fundamentals are still there and I would buy some more when the situation turns around.

The fact we have 2 reputable investors in Pohuat does not guarantee the share price will not fall. It does however imply that this company is "investment grade". If you take the long term view, which these gentlemen do, you should do fine.

Googled "cold eye". This is one impressive chap.

Its a well run company. The Owners/Managers are intelligent, prudent & hard working Malaysian Chinese. I dare say honest too. I think odds are the coming result well be a good one.

It looks good if you are willing to hold for at least 3 quarters. I like the fact that they paid down their USD denominated loans to 40 million. As CIMB said it, Hevea has the potential to be in a net cash position in 2015 and the possibility of good dividends is also there because the owners own >40% of the company. I will certainly monitor this one closely.

I agree with Joel. Definitely not due to CJ expiring. Hapseng is a issued 2 billion share company 75% owned by 1 person. It would take a lot of money to engineer the price to this level for the sake of not paying the difference between the strike and market price of the CJ. Its not worth it.

Cherry88. That's why I like this company. The directors have shown time and time again to be frank and honest. I am referring to your remarks about customers wanting a discount. Its not necessary for them to say so but they did. I think it will be ok and will look fwd to its next quarterly report end March.

The borrowings are merely short term and listed under current liabilities. They are probably for trade bills and are self liquidating. A quick glance shows no long term debts. I see a RM8 million purchase of property. I believe it's for a piece of land for housing developement. All in all it's business as usual. Pohuat continues to do better each quarter. I believe the directors to be honest and hard working Chinese businessmen. I have no problems parking my money here.
