Sasbadi Holdings - Downward Trend to Continue
Author: HLInvest | Publish date: Thu, 1 Nov 2018, 10:38 AM
Sasbadi’s FY18 core earnings of RM8.0m (-10.7% YoY) were below ours and consensus expectation. 4QFY18 performance was affected by lower book sales and higher paper cost. We cut our FY19-20 earnings assumption by 48-58% respectively as we adjust for lower book sales and higher paper cost. We maintain HOLD rating with a lower TP of RM0.20 based on an unchanged 12x P/E multiple tagged to CY19 earnings

Book voucher is for tertiary students. But SAS is in primary and secondary students market. I dont see how the book voucher will help SAS.
In fact, the MOE has no plan to slow down its execution of no workbook policy for year 1 to 3 students.

MD of Sasbadi, Mr Law King Hui, what do you have you say about this? Who else can you blame?

Sasbadi has moved into other segments but with no success, segments eg robotics, AR, online all with negative return
The inventory level keeps increasing, now nearing the total annual revenue. Can you imagine how 'good' the sales of these products are?

The future looks bleak for SAS.
Quarter report ended 28.02.18 is out but it is way below expectation.
Inventories RM 69,784,000
Receivables RM 63,405,000
Loans RM 20,787,000
Negative cash flow RM -8,385,000
1. The high inventories show that SAS products are not fast-moving(selling). Last quarter the MD said that the inventories will improve because it was unexpected, but my question to him is: "Why is it still high this quarter, considering this has been traditionally your best quarter of the year?"
2. High receivables show SAS's weak collection, possibly due to stagnant product hence bookshops unable to pay. or it may be due to its premature MLM scheme.
3. High Loans of RM 20,787,000 VS Revenue demonstrated its weak cash flow management. Over expending could be one of its fatal weakness. FYI, the MD promised at least a M&A a year.
4. A high NEGATIVE cash flow of -RM 8,385,000 for quarter ended 28.02.18, illustrates point 3 above further. On 28.02.2017, the cash flow was RM1,071,000 surplus. To simply put, the cash flow for this year is RM 9,456,000 WORSE than 2017 Q2.

Sasbadi First Half Earnings Below Forecasts, Says CIMB Research
Sasbadi’s 1HFY18 revenue declined 4.1% on-year to RM56mil; net profit
also declined by the same percentage.
CIMB Research slashed its FY18F-20F EPS by 48.4%-54.9%, mainly to reflect lower
retail and MLM revenue forecasts as both sectors continue to face strong peer
competition and tight domestic consumer spending.
“We were earlier too optimistic about Sasbadi's MLM prospects and it now looks like
this division might take a longer time to see the exponential revenue growth we had
expected,” it said.
