Encorp: Redeveloping old Felda HQ
Encorp, which was bought over by Felda Investment Corp Sdn Bhd (FIC) last week, plans to tear down the old Felda headquarters in Jalan Semarak, here, and rebuild the area as a mixed residential and commercial development. Sources said Encorp's maiden project under FIC is to demolish Anjung Felda, Balai Felda and Wisma Felda, which sit on 16ha of prime land, and redevelop them into medium-cost apartments, luxury condominiums, affordable homes and a private college. "The gross development value (GDV) will be no less than RM500m," a source said. Felda, whose commercial arm Felda Global Ventures Holdings, is shifting to its new headquarters at Menara Felda in Persiaran KLCC. (Business Times)

Eupe Corp: To roll out four projects with GDV of RM960m
Eupe Corp plans to roll out at least four projects, two projects each in Selangor and Kedah, with a combined gross development value (GDV) of RM960m in the current financial year ending Feb 28, 2015 (FY15). Group MD and CEO Datuk Beh Huck Lee pointed out that the group in fact has projects with total GDV of RM1.2bn in the pipeline. The Kedah-based developer has unbilled sales of RM100m, Beh added. For the time being, Beh noted that it has sufficient war chest landbank expansion. The company has undeveloped landbank of 1,100 acres (445.15ha) mainly in Kedah, and is scouting for land in the Klang Valley, he said. (Financial Daily))

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen made it clear she believes the economy still requires a strong dose of stimulus five years after the recession ended because unemployment and inflation are well short of the Fed’s goals. “A high degree of monetary accommodation remains warranted,” Yellen said today in testimony to the Joint Economic Committee of Congress. “Many Americans who want a job are still unemployed,” and inflation is below the central bank’s 2% target, she said. Felda Investment Corp (FIC) is carrying out due diligence on Encorp, sources say. FIC, which was set up last year, is ramping up property development and investment activities and is looking for a good vehicle to support its growth plan. According to sources, it has identified property development and tourism projects as core activities. It was reported that FIC is looking to buy a substantial stake in Encorp, controlled by CEO Yeoh Soo Ann and COO Mohd Ibrahim Masrukin who last year undertook a management buyout of Encorp by taking over Lavista Sdn Bhd, which owned a 30.55% stake in the company. Lavista is a private vehicle of former Encorp executive chairman Datuk Seri Effendi Norwawi. (Bernama)

US consumer confidence dipped in April but remained near a 6-year high, while home prices rose in Feb 2014, suggesting the economy continued to regain momentum after a winter lull. The Conference Board said its index of consumer attitudes dipped to 82.3, the second-highest reading since Jan 2008, from an upwardly revised 83.9 in Mar 2014. An unusually cold and snowy winter disrupted economic activity early in the year. The expectations index rose to its highest since Aug 2013, hitting 84.9 in Apr from an upwardly revised 84.8 in Mar, while the present situation index fell to 78.3 versus an upwardly revised 82.5 last month. The US Treasury Department announced the biggest quarterly paydown of government debt in seven years, as a stronger labor market helps boost tax revenue. The drop in net marketable debt will be USD78bn in the April-June period, USD38bn more than the paydown projected three months ago, with an end-of-June cash balance of USD130bn, the Treasury said today in Washington. The improvement will be short lived - net borrowing of USD169bn is projected next quarter, with USD130bn in cash Sept. 30. (Bloomberg)

Alam Maritim Resources Bhd announced that a Hong Leong unit and another firm have agreed to subscribe to 123 million new shares in Alam Maritim for RM166.05 million.
Their joint subscription will represent 15.35% of the existing shares in Alam Maritim.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Alam Maritim said it had today entered into a subscription agreement with Associated Land Sdn Bhd and Caprice Capital Intl Ltd for the proposed issuance and allotment of 123 million new ALAM shares, representing 15.35% of the existing paid-up share capital of the company, at an issue price of RM1.35 per unit.
Associated Land, an indirect subsidiary of Hong Leong Company (Malaysia) Berhad, will take up 60 million shares while Caprice Capital, controlled by Poh Yang Hong, will take up 63 million shares.
Alam Maritim’s share price closed 10 sen or 6.4% higher at RM1.65 on Monday. Trading was halted yesterday and today pending this announcement.
