Outlook. While resin prices have largely remained flat as of late, we believe that ASPs will remain elevated relative to June levels, driven by the strong demand for their premium products. We continue to like TGUAN for: (i) the robust demand for its premium products, and (ii) capacity expansion to continue fuelling long-term growth. We gather from management that TGUAN is currently operating at >80% utilisation rate in order to cater for the strong demand for its stretch film, premium blown film and courier bags. Once lockdowns are lifted and economic activities resume, the construction of its 16-acre (currently c.80% completed) new factory should resume and TGUAN will be able to continue their planned expansion. More importantly, c.95% of TGUAN’s workforce has been fully vaccinated, thus, TGUAN has recently resumed to operating with 100% of its workforce.

2QFY21 CNP of RM26.2m brought 1HFY21 CNP to RM48.8m, which is above our expectation, at 56% of full-year forecast. 1HFY21 DPS of 2.0 sen is in-line with our estimate. Moving forward, we expect ASPs to remain elevated @ June levels supported by the robust demand for its premium products. As ASPs are falling slower than expected, we raise FY21E CNP by 6%. We also raise FY22E CNP by 6% for newly-planned capacity expansion. Reiterate OUTPERFORM with new TP of RM3.70 (from RM3.38) at 14x PER on FY22E EPS of 26.4 sen.

Mexican quick-service chain Del Taco Restaurants Inc. told investors late last month that it was trying to manage packaging shortages, which executives said stemmed from U.S. suppliers’ short-handed production plants.

Packaging costs are up 10% compared with last year for chain Noodles & Co., largely because of the raw material resin getting more expensive, Chief Executive Dave Boennighausen said. Power outages in Texas in February triggered chemical plant shutdowns, leading to a continuing shortage of resin and other materials used to make plastics.

Beyond paper bags, McDonald’s recently told restaurants that they would need to limit straw purchases, too. One of the chain’s suppliers in the U.S. is running short because of labor shortfalls, rail disruptions, West Coast wildfires and resin outages, the company said in the message to restaurant owners.

Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) CEO Albert Bourla said in an interview with NBC News' Lester Holt that because additional variants of COVID-19 are likely to crop up, individuals may need a COVID-19 vaccine annually.

"Every year, you need to go to get your flu vaccine," Bourla said. "It's going to be the same with COVID. In a year, you will have to go and get your annual shot for COVID to be protected."

Pfizer and other drugmakers involved in COVID-19 vaccines are working on vaccine boosters that will improve protection against variants, such as those first discovered in the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil.

Bourla told NBC News that a third COVID-19 vaccine dose "will boost the antibody response 10- to 20-fold."

Pfizer and its partner BioNTech SE (NASDAQ:BNTX) earlier today announced they have started a study evaluating a third dose of their COVID-19 vaccine to determine how it might further boost immunity and its effectiveness against the variants.

In January, the executives from Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) voiced similar remarks. "From what we’ve seen so far, I think our expectation is that the vaccination should last you at least a year," Moderna’s outgoing chief medical officer, Dr. Tal Zaks had said at the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference.

"I think this will become a market like flu," Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel told CNBC in January predicting that the emergence of new variants will require adjustments to vaccines.

Yesterday, Moderna announced that it completed the manufacturing of clinical trial material for a variant-specific vaccine candidate targeting the SARS-CoV-2 variant first identified in South Africa.

Citing the company's positioning to serve the implementation of electric vehicle and 5G, Cowen upgrades Cree (NASDAQ:CREE) from Market Perform to Outperform and raises the price target from $90 to $150.

Analyst Karl Ackerman: "CREE's leading portfolio of next generation semiconductors positions the company well to capitalize on solving the bandwidth and cost challenges facing the implementation of 5G and electric vehicles. A robust order backlog secures the F24 model, and design-ins should catalyze growth."

Citing the company's positive reaction to any electric vehicle or emission reduction news, Citi upgrades Cree (NASDAQ:CREE) from Neutral to Buy and raises the price target from $105 to $160.

Analyst Amanda Scarnati: "Notably, we believe that during President Biden’s first State of the Union he will highlight and subsequently detail his plan to invest $400B in clean energy, which includes improving battery technologies, restoring the tax credit for EVs, and installing a national network of EV chargers, which we view as positive for CREE and the EV market generally."

Citi thinks most of the investor concerns will be outweighed by the "EV hype" over the next 12 months, especially if Cree keeps announcing design wins.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/jan/13/just-eat-takeaway-orders-soar-on-back-of-european-lockdowns-covid

Locked-down consumers across Europe ordered 57% more takeaways from the continent’s biggest delivery group in the final three months of 2020 than a year earlier.

The huge leap in trade reported by Just Eat Takeaway.com was a further acceleration in growth from the 46% jump in the third quarter, as surging coronavirus cases resulted in countries across Europe reintroducing strict restrictions, keeping people at home.

In the UK, delivery orders surged by almost 400% in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared with the same period of 2019, as many consumers were once again asked by the government to stay at home.

It's being reported today that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) is aggressively recruiting over 600 engineers and executives for what will be its first U.S. plant in 20 years, Nikkei Asia has learned.

The world's largest contract chipmaker will initially bring together a mix of current employees and new hires to staff a $12 billion chipmaking plant it will start building next year in Arizona, TSMC Chairman Mark Liu told Nikkei. The hiring push comes with American officials and lawmakers calling on semiconductor companies to bring more of their operations to the U.S.

According to Liu, a task force of more than 300 current employees and managers with experience in developing and producing 5-nanometer chips will be dispatched to help get the plant off the ground. Five-nanometer chips are the most advanced in the world and are used in the latest iPhone 12 range and Mac processors. The U.S. has agreed to offer as many working visas as TSMC needs for this purpose

Teradyne upgraded at Stifel on semi test, industrial robotics trends

Citing improving growth prospects in the semi test and industrial robotics, Stifel upgrades Teradyne (NASDAQ:TER) from Hold to Buy and raises the price target from $85 to $115.

Analyst Brian Chin: "In semis, we now expect a shorter digestion phase (smartphone picking back up) and are increasing our CY21 estimates accordingly. More broadly we believe upward pressure on test intensity (more test rev$/wafer) is unlikely to abate and we see Teradyne capitalizing on this given its strong/improving customer position."

In industrial robotics, Chin sees an underappreciated opportunity, particularly for autonomous vehicles. Chin's checks suggest robotics growth will reaccelerate next year.

Teradyne shares are up 3.6% to $85.41.

Teradyne has a Bullish average Wall Street analysts rating with a price target of $89.85.

NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) - Get Report on Thursday raised its guidance for the third quarter based on better-than-expected performance, particularly in its automotive and mobile end markets.

“Relative to the mid-point of our guidance, we experienced material improvement in demand across all end markets, but particularly in the Automotive and Mobile end markets,” Kurt Sievers, NXP president and CEO, said in a statement.

The company said it sees revenue for the quarter coming in even with a year ago, at $2.267 billion, vs. previous expectations of a 12% decline. It said non-GAAP operating income for the period will be $586 million compared with previous expectations of $444 million.

The company said it had seen improved demand in both its direct and distribution channels. “The business environment has improved at a faster than anticipated pace, driving a broad-based increase in revenue, which also enabled higher gross margin, Sievers said.

Take the over on EVs - Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas says investors shouldn't overthink the inevitable growth of the EV market with global penetration only at 2% and major automakers fully committed. He notes that the EV industry is growing at a 20% CAGR through 2040, while the internal combustion energy industry will shrink at an estimated 5% CAGR through 2040. Thus, the advice is given to 'take the over' on growth from the 2% mark.

California's big move to ban ICE cars is called notable because the state ranks by itself as the 5th largest GDP market in the world and could accelerate the move of fleets (corporate, logistics, rideshare) into EVs.

Jonas thinks the California announcement sets up well for Aptiv (APTV -2.2%) and Tesla (TSLA -6.0%) in particular. Of course, the list of EV stocks is growing by the day and includes names like Blink Charging (BLNK -4.9%), Arcimoto (FUV -4.0%), Spartan Energy Acquisition (SPAQ -6.5%), Electrameccanica Vehicles (SOLO +7.4%), Delphi Technologies (DLPH -0.8%), Tortoise Acquisition (SHLL -17.3%), Lordstown Motors (RIDE) and Workhorse Group (WKHS -5.7%). Interestingly, many of those names are lower following Tesla's Battery Day event and the high-profile flameout of Nikola (NKLA -17.8%) Executive Chairman Trevor Milton.
