Velesto Energy Bhd is one, posting a net profit of RM5 million for the first quarter ended March 31, 2018, compared to a net loss of RM104.1 million in the corresponding quarter a year ago. In the preceeding quarter ended December, its loss was a whopping RM980.5 million.
“For Velesto, things will continue to improve as they continue their cost rationalisation and utilisation increases. I believe second-quarter utilisation should be between 70% and 80% and second-half utilisation will likely be more than 90%,” said Abel Goon, an analyst with TA Securities.

Goon, who also covers Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX), said the company’s earnings growth is likely to continue as its more recent acquisitions begin to deliver, including the order flow from production sharing contracts, as well as the development of the 1Trade system — a web-based one-stop portal for cargo and trade management.
He observed that improved oil prices would also benefit DNeX’s associate Ping Petroleum as its “Anasuria cluster is directly exposed to oil prices”.

Velesto Energy aiming for 100% utilisation of jack-up fleet
Malaysian drilling contractor Velesto Energy (formerly UMW Oil & Gas) is hoping that within weeks it will have secured 100% utilisation for its seven-strong jack-up fleet, writes Amanda Battersby.
“Besides working on the extension of existing contracts, the group is also bidding and negotiating for new contracts to replace expiring ones,” said Velesto.
Jack-up Naga 8 is expected to have its existing contract with Hess offshore Peninsular Malaysia extended by another two years to around mid-2020. Meanwhile, one source suggested that a sister rig, Naga 7, could be in line to secure a contract with Shell due to start in the third quarter.
Of Velesto’s already chartered units, UMW 5 is about to start a two-well contract for Repsol off Sabah, East Malaysia. UMW 5 is scheduled to drill the Realgar-2 and Axinit-1 exploration wells on Block SB 309. “The utilisation rate is expected to stay at a relatively healthy level in the near future,” added Velesto. “However, time charter rates remain challenging due to the global oversupply of rigs,” cautioned the contractor.
Kuala Lumpur-listed Velesto officially changed its name from UMW Oil & Gas on 25 May.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 4): Green Packet Bhd targets to return to profit this year, driven by growth in its core business of solutions and communications.
Last week, the digital telecommunications technology group posted a lower net loss of RM3.13 million for its first quarter ended March 31, 2018, which is 42% lower than the net loss of RM5.38 million it recorded a year ago, despite loss after tax widening to RM7.8 million on higher business development and finance costs.
"After returning to black this year, the group is hopeful to see double-digit growth for its financial results in 2019," its chief executive officer Tan Kay Yen told reporters after attending the group's annual general meeting today.
Tan said the group's double-digit growth expectation for its 2019 financial results apply to both revenue and net profit, and will be driven by new business growth and existing business.
"We expect to see single-digit growth for our existing business, while [our] new business should post double-digit growth," Tan added. Among the new businesses the company is in are fintech and Internet of Things.
As at 3.19pm, Green Packet's share price rose 1.5 sen or 4.92% to 32 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM240.32 million.

Aemulus’ inaugural steps into AI-driven test ecosystem
Powering and accelerating smart manufacturing implementation at your fingertips
Kuala Lumpur – May 22, 2018 – Aemulus, a leader in automated test equipment
(ATE) solutions, today announced that smart manufacturers now will have more
control of their production floor with its latest product, Moridaru — a platform that
encompasses a software framework with Artificial Intelligence capability.
Moridaru integrates devices, data, processes and people. It then predicts risks on the
test production floor with its preset machine-learning algorithms. Moridaru enables
engineers to interpret and decode massive amount of data they encounter daily on
the production floor. Converging historical data and on-going data analysis,
Moridaru recognises patterns that call for action, e.g. imminent production
downtime, affected production yield, out-of-schedule maintenance, etc. These
data-driven actions will eventually lead to smarter factories.
Aemulus unveiled Moridaru at the recent SEMICON Southeast Asia 2018, “Be a
captain at what you do — better decision-making at your fingertips.” The launch
ceremony was graced by Datuk Yasmin Mahmood, CEO of Malaysia Digital
Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Dato’Azman Mahmud, CEO of Malaysian
Investment Development Authority (MIDA). Aemulus CEO, Ng Sang Beng said, “We
are moving Aemulus from a hardware-centric company to an ecosystem-centric
one. Aligned with the semiconductor industry’s direction towards Industry 4.0, we
are in the initial phase of development. Building an ecosystem is not an overnight
job; we are working closely with a few beta customers to ensure smooth transition
and then, perfect the structure and flow of data feed.”
Dato’ Azman, CEO of MIDA, in congratulating the company, said, “MIDA is indeed
delighted to see Aemulus moving up the value chain from just producing test
hardware to becoming a total test systems solution provider. As the robust
semiconductor industry race towards adopt Industry 4.0, we need to see more local
companies invest in R&D and be innovative to be resilient in overcoming any
disruption caused by the rapid technological change in the industry.”
Welcoming the launch of the platform, Datuk Yasmin said: "It is always wonderful to
see a Malaysian company making great strides in introducing innovative automated
test solutions to the global arena. This is a testament to the nation's digital
economy efforts as Aemulus is taking full advantage of MDEC's GAIN globalisation
initiatives to accelerate its international product expansion plans."
Moridaru is a platform; a gateway fed by big data that prompts analysis and predicts
outcomes. Serving Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), the long-term product roadmap
includes add-on features that will transform the supply chain of smart
manufacturers. Ultimately, minimum human intervention is needed to run the
production floor.
Sang Beng said, “Moridaru is exciting! Giving us the added drive in our existing
market and beyond our playing field. ”
The positive outcome of AI’s deep learning has continuously taken the world by
awe. For now, companies decision-maker can call for better action and drive better
outcomes overall in a short period and eventually work towards an ecosystem with
Aemulus’ AI, Moridaru.

"Although Aemulus is moving into software and solutions, it will continue growing its core business of hardware. That part of the game has not changed and it is hoping to grab a larger slice of the pie,” explained CEO Ng Sang Beng in Pushing North by The Edge.
In Pushing North by The Edge, CEO Ng Sang Beng said,
"We are moving Aemulus from a hardware-centric company to a more ecosystem-centric one. We do not want to just sell products; we want to also sell service."
In Pushing North by The Edge, CEO Ng Sang Beng shared,
"When it comes to Industry 4.0, companies will want to have more control over their production floor and capacity planning. If someone has extra capacity or needs more capacity, you can automate the process and we can deliver the solution to your doorstep."

GEORGE TOWN: G3 Global Bhd
image: https://cdn.thestar.com.my/Themes/img/chart.png
will release new Internet-of-things (IoT) products for the South-East Asian market in the second half of 2018 to tap into the IT market.
Group executive director Lim Boon Hong told StarBiz that the IoT products came in the form of sensor hubs with embedded systems that can be used for smart farming to transmit data from any sensors to remote servers via various connectivity options such as LoRa, NB-IOT and 4G. “The product will help farmers increase agricultural yields and optimise resources for smart farming,” he added.
“Another IoT product is the Connected ADAS (Advance Driver Assistance Systems) solution, which provides continuous monitoring of vehicles and its surroundings, automatically alerting drivers when dangerous conditions are detected.
“Through this early warning system, drivers would be able to immediately take corrective actions to prevent collisions and accidents, thus reducing loss of lives and assets,” Lim said.
According to Lim, these new IoT products are now on a trial run by customers and will be launched in the second half of the year, targeting mainly customers in the South-East Asian market, as well as other parts of the world. “The IoT business should contribute to our revenue in the second half of 2018, which we expect to be the group’s key driver in the future.
“The IoT segment is not a capital-intensive industry. So far, we have invested more than RM5mil in designing and developing the IoT platform. The group is also developing IoT-related prototypes and minimum viable products for specific industry needs and use case,” Lim said.
On G3 Global’s apparel business, Lim said the industry was still facing challenges due to the slow market conditions in the country that have resulted in weakening consumer confidence.
“Rising prices for food and essential items have driven up the cost of living. Consumers are cautious in their spending habits, giving priority to essential items such as food, school expenses over apparel products.
“We are taking measures to lower operating cost and find the best approach to turn around the business.
“Our investment in the IoT business is in its gestation phase,” Lim said.

Maintain hold with an unchanged target price (TP) of 45 sen: Aemulus Holdings Bhd’s share price went ex-bonus on Wednesday following the issuance of 109.7 million bonus shares, increasing the group’s share base to 548.6 million shares. The group highlighted that the bonus issue exercise is mainly to reward its existing shareholders. We are positive on the bonus issue. Although it does not alter the company’s fundamentals, we expect this corporate exercise to boost the stock’s liquidity and improve near-term trading sentiment.
Aemulus’s revenue in the first quarter of financial year 2018 (1QFY18) rose 69% year-on-year (y-o-y) to reach RM9.4 million on the back of higher tester shipment volumes due to resilient demand in the enterprise storage, smartphone and tablet markets. Meanwhile, the group’s research and development (R&D) expenses increased by 44% y-o-y in tandem with ongoing R&D activities and additional headcount to support product development. Overall, Aemulus posted y-o-y higher net profit of RM1 million in 1QFY18 compared with RM600,000 in 1QFY17.
We expect stronger earnings delivery by Aemulus from 2QFY18 onwards, driven by seasonal demand recovery and new customer wins. In addition, the group expects to register double-digit revenue growth from China and Taiwan in FY18 forecast (FY18F). Aemulus set up a new regional office in Taiwan in 2016 as part of management’s efforts to be closer to its key clients in North Asia. We are encouraged to see good traction by the Taiwan venture as it recorded 20% y-o-y revenue growth in FY17, driven by new customer wins.
We expect China to be a key growth driver for Aemulus in FY18F onwards, driven by successful product penetration into local Chinese semiconductor contract manufacturers and fabless players. We see Aemulus as a potential proxy for China’s strategy of building a domestic semiconductor ecosystem. Semi, the market research group, projects the semiconductor equipment market sales in China to grow by a staggering 57% in 2018 and 60% in 2019. We believe this bodes well for equipment players like Aemulus.
We maintain our “hold” rating on the stock with an unchanged TP of 45 sen, still based on 22 times 2019 forecast price-earnings ratio, at a 10% premium over the Malaysian test equipment sector mean. We project Aemulus to record a healthy 18% net profit compound annual growth rate in FY17 to FY20F. We see new designs and customer wins as upside risks to our call, while the strengthening of the ringgit versus the US dollar and weaker demand for testers are downside risks. — CGSCIMB Research, April 18
