@treetophill I'm on the naive side. I'm taking the carbon pledge we made in the UN at face value.
From your points, i see that there are definitely pros and cons for tenaga to focus on the lower risk retail / transmission business, but to do that would be a long term downgrade in my view. (Despite what management says, i feel that MESI 2.0 is a long term negative for tenaga, as i still love the electric generation monopoly from TENAGA since We have about 21% coal revenue right now)
If u read between the lines in one of datuk megats recent edge interview, profits are not measuring sticks for the transformation in tenaga retail business. But it will be important to follow up on the generation business strategy before going investing much deeper into tenaga for long term shareholders

@getingreal IMO, expansion is better. we'll still get dividends but honestly i think the hands are tied if malaysia wants to hit its global warming pledge. We have to factor in coal generator depreciation too. We keep giving additional dividend to kwap and gang (conspiracy :p) , but the hard truth is they can fund a renewable energy generation arm, as well as setting up EV charge station, and go for IPO to unlock more returns, leaving TENAGA in the dust.
@DickyMe seems reasonable. Not to mention we'll probably be feeding the solar panels manufacturer fatly lol

@newguy
We'll have to wait for 2 weeks if IRB files an appeal to the higher courts.
But i like the new initiatives to pivot to renewable energy. Until then funds may need to shy away from tenaga 20+% revenue from coal generation. Current energy mix is 65% coal, 29% fuel. (No point getting a hybrid car :p)
Its TNB, i do not expect them to lose out most of the renewable energy generation contracts, but malaysia as a whole may need up to 50b additional investment to truly hit our renewable energy target and tp be realistic, TNB may not be able to execute all of them thus potentially seceding their electrical generation 'monopoly' which is probably rating the long term stock price target lower.
In short, its a good stock, and a malaysian pride. An investors will likely have to settle for lower returns until it turns around in 2030s. Or as what they say, buy and close your eyes :P

@lesliecky IRB can still appeal.
Yeah its investing. Ups and downs. :P

@stocksafeplayer yup, when he said that, chills literally ran down my spines. Anyway, bursa is plagued with so many ESG issues. (Including Topglove, PETRONAS). A part of being a proud malaysian has died inside me.

@Mabel its a senior partner that manages the serba account. For an audit firm its a last resort to pull these type of moves, and its only done after consulting multiple levels of management and partners.
For the rest of the folks, I do see people with audit experience in the chat. Read between the chats and make your own decision.
Anyhow, this is the stock market, logic doesn't apply here :p Huat ah!

@mokluhanj21 be positive. Zero carbon footprint is important for gloval warming. The rising sea levels are very alarming and i hope we do our part. Else the damage will be far greater than stock devaluation.
Our ex beloved ceo amir hamzah was hesitant on rapidly expanding on green energy when asked on interview by the edge back then (understandable from a cost and profit point of view) but i hope the new ceo will pick it up.
Foreign selling i think has slowed. The rapid decline was from 18-12% last year and we have been hovering around 12 for a while.

@Pinky Serba being one of KPMG big customers, senior management at kpmg has likely stepped in and reviewed those decisions before raising them. So the hypothesis of a newbie audit team does not hold water.
Not saying serbadk is guilty/innocent but wirecard bounced around for a long time. So pro traders will definitely be able to capitalize on the volatility.
I'll be happy if chef karim proves the company is clean, plans to expand engineering expertise is on track. It's a set back for Malaysia and industrial 4.0 otherwise. It will also be good to consolidate the business groups. We have membrane tech, augment reality, space, urban planning for tech hubs, factory automation etc. However, hirings are mainly for energy related roles. (Ive been tracking linkedin, jobstreets on serbas )
Fingers crossed and hope for the best

@jeffchan1901 tenaga is different. There's RP3 and MESI that have impacted tenaga's long term earnings and monopoly. That's like a re-rating.
Banks are the wrong counter to trade imo, so little volatility. These are more like savings/dividend stocks lol.

@tollenbunsmith yeah, along with all the stimulus/isinar :p
There's not much place for malaysian retailers to go when interest rate is so low.
@zackmeiser dividend stocks are for long term holds lol. Selling off all when you have collected at 7.1 feels like a bit of a loss.
Analyst says that the loss provision have been exaggerated with government stimulus :p Thats if you trust those papers :p

Many moons have passed. Lol we still see jun1920 and 8dragon flirting here.
Riaz1954 still screaming manipulation :p
Imo the o&g maintainence stocks eg:serbadk is suffering from risks from potential asset write downs from o&g players. Having said that, Dr karim's plan to diversify still deserve our vote of confidence.

@riaz1954 yeah. There's a problem with the gme current short squeeze theory too. Initial batch of buyers have made banks. But folks that bought in at moonshot price will probably get burned.
No one knows if the remaining short interest is for synthetic longs or if hedge fund has already covered with calls.
Now topglove folks are trying to convince common folks to squeeze a mega cap glove company that has at most 3% short interest.... I dont even want to blame foreign bankers for shorting at this point..

@morningglory123 wait for red red red day lol. Funds can support prices for a long time though. I saw that you're new to stocks. Welcome to the roller coaster ride.
There's a lot of option for new investor. There's foreign stocks to hedge against yr malaysian income, (alibaba/xiaomi/tsmc/jp morgan/pfizer etc) there's a couple of industries that cratered from covid. Some people like to buy sectors that they are in so that there are in more "control", and may have more industrial insider news.
Look through your options before deciding. Happy investing :)

Ya lol. Mesi 2.0 dam bearish for tnb wan, driven by our favourite ex minister yeoh bee yin. (Nothing against that lady though :p)
Tenaga internal reorg will split tnb internally to trsb (retail) and tpgsb(generation). PH Government want to fully privatize electricity retail and generation. I think its a good thing to have some competition. But kinda messed up privatizing our electricity esspecially when we are a small country.
If PH come back, must sell your tnbs lol. Foreign funds probably have chosen to derisk instead coupled with the IRS issue. Probably one of the reasons foreign stockholding like crap. I dont believe those sell off are truly due to coal financing, as tenaga is aggressively pivoting to solar energy already.
I think bidens win has hampered some of tenagas plan to go for solar, as solar stocks around the world has rallied hard, making acquisitions tough, while solar remains hardly profitable.
My 2 cents. Can look into feb agm meeting minutes and mesi 2.0 for your Christmas reading :p
