Yes, 1997 crisis was the worst so far I witnessed, worse than 2008 crisis! As neohts mentioned, foreign owned companies were faring better, more stable, eg. GAB, which even in economic downturn, people also drink, even worse, coz they want to drown their sorrows! he he!! Actually, I was also 'caught' in the 1997 downturn, and couldnt sell in time, so keep lor, and now also bearing fruit! But of course, if I could sell all in time and bought back, it would have been better. (Was busy working that time, now like now retired already, more time to monitor the market) Anyway, times have changed.. nowadays the slightest bad news will bring the market down, eg. if interest rates in US goes up, it will be bad for the stock and property markets, and inevitably will affect us in Malaysia too! Do you know if you had bought 1,000 Public Bank or 1,000 Genting, when it first opened for public issue, you would have been a millionaire with PBB and a multi-millionaire with Genting, by now? wait till tomorrow and see what the price is, coz tomorrow is election. My cost per lot is only 30 cts, and so i am not so anxious to sell.. Bought at rm1.80 three years ago, and kept it till today. With the dividends added into the profit, I think the cost is much less than 30 cts. So keeping long term is a good strategy. If tomorrow reaches rm1.00 may consider letting go some.

Liau San, I am right. I have 12 lots before bonus/share split, and now it has become 72 lots. You get 0.2 bonus for one lot, and then the 1.2 lots divided into 20 cents share, equal 6 lots. Where did I go wrong?

Actually, one lots becomes 6 lots, if one bought before the bonus issue, which is 1:5. So if the price now is 80 cts, it tanslates to RM4.80, if one bought 1 lots before ex-bonus. If 85 cts, then its worth is 85 x 6 = 5.10

Axie99,agree with you 100% this is a very good long term counter to keep. They consistently give dividends and also capital repayment. Hopefully, next change! I bought 3 years ago, and made more than 100% returns already, inclusive of dividends and capital repayment and share price increase. Never disappoint long term investors!
