SUMATEC STARTS OIL PRODUCTION IN KAZAKHSTAN
Sumatec Resources Berhad (Sumatec) has, on the 27th of January 2014, successfully started producing oil in the Rakushechnoye Oil Field in Kazakhstan. The first well under the re-entry and work-over programme was brought on production. The well is expected to produce initially between 100 – 150 barrels of oil per day after a full production test has been completed. Sumatec plans to re-open and perform work-over on 9 more wells in the next 3 months. Sumatec’s CEO, Chris Dalton said, “We’re very excited over the start of our oil production, and we’re really looking forward to see the results of the work-over program in the next three months.” We believe we can easily reach our target production for 2014 of at least 2,000 barrels per day by just doing work- overs. This will save us a lot of time and money compared to drilling new wells.” Both Chris Dalton and Zulkifly Mohamad (COO) were at the field to witness the historic oil production from the well in the freezing -20 degrees C winter.
Sumatec now has a full in-house team of oil experts to study and operate the oil field. According to Sumatec’s CEO, Chris Dalton, since the take-over of the oil field management in November 2013Sumatec has been drawing up the most efficient way to ramp-up the production in terms of cost, time, safety and environmental impact. “I’m really happy with the team. Each of them has deep understanding of their respective areas and they’re working very well together. Everybody is excited and full of energy.
At the same time SUMATEC will carry out preparatory work consisting of slickline, wire-line logging and well clean up procedures in preparation for the arrival of the work-over rig and coil tubing unit which is expected to arrive on site in February 2014 from Croatia. The work procedures are being conducted ahead of the rig arrival to ensure that there are no delays in the campaign.
The Rakuschechnoye Oil and Gas Field has a certified oil reserves (2p) of 32 million barrels based on 10% of the explored acreage in the concession area. The remaining 90% of the acreage is yet to be appraised and tested for further possible upgrading and certification of additional oil and gas reserves.
The start of oil production from the Rakuschechnoye Oil and Gas Field marks a key milestone in Sumatec’s oil production rejuvenation program for 2014 and beyond, and is a significant step towards turning Sumatec around in its recently completed regularisation plan.
