How did Beijing dig a massive hole for itself? And why Australia could shrug off China...
A series of political disputes have strained the relationship between China and Australia. This relationship has further deteriorated with the establishment of AUKUS, a new alliance between Australia, the UK, and the US.
It has been more than a year since China began imposing tariffs, bonds, and other punitive measures against different imports from Australia, attempting to hurt its economy and force its concessions.
However, when we look at the trade numbers between the two countries in the past year, we find that the CCP itself almost entirely swallows the bitter consequences of its crackdown on Australia. Therefore, some commentators have said that the CCP has perfectly illustrated the act of shooting oneself in the foot.

Next Evergrande? $900 Billion in debt, 24 million loss per day, the highest of its kind in the world
What does 900 billion USD of debt look like? Shanghai, the richest city in China, has a total GDP of $600 billion in 2020, which means that even the whole year of Shanghai’s GDP won’t be able to cover the debt of China National Railway.
$900 billion debt is the official figure. No one knows how much the actual deficit and debt are. The total debt is likely to double that or reach nearly 1,800 billion USD. Why?

The risks of investing in China/Why does China open the Beijing Stock Exchange recently? /The VIE
Xi Jinping government is likely to try to create a new, unique Chinese capital market that isn’t dependent on the Western system, and that can both attract overseas Chinese capital back to China and induce international investment, leading the world.
The SEC issued an investor warning on Sept. 20th, 2021, urging investors to be wary of the risks associated with Chinese companies listed in the U.S. It explained that some Chinese companies, for example, have circumvented U.S. market rules and created a class of companies with contracts but having no controlling interest, also known as Variable Interest Entity or VIE.

Hundreds of thousands of people from ethnic minorities, including the Uighur community, are being forced by the Chinese authorities to pick cotton, in the far western region of Xinjiang, according to information seen by the BBC.
The evidence suggests that China's cotton crop - a fifth of the world’s supply - could be far more dependent on forced labour than previously thought.
Over the past few years more than a million Uighurs are believed to have been detained in so-called ‘re-education' camps. China denies claims of torture and carrying out forced sterilisations and abortions.
In response to the latest evidence the Chinese government has told the BBC that claims of forced labour are “entirely fabricated”.
Huw Edwards presents a BBC News at Ten special investigation from John Sudworth in Xinjiang - a region where foreign journalists are closely monitored.

China is going through an energy crisis but what's that mean for the world?
China is at the center of major power cuts. Many factories have been forced to shut down, millions of households have lost power, and the demand for Chinese goods has doubled since the pandemic making it hard to keep up. Chinese authorities have begun rationing power as the price of imported coal is on the rise. This is a result of China’s choice to stop purchasing coal from Australia after political tension arose around how Beijing handled the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, China's five-year plan to reduce carbon emissions reduced their use of coal but recent cold weather has created greater demand for the fuel.
The crisis has impacted Chinese citizens, production, and the world economy. With winter approaching, Chinese citizens are reportedly losing power and cannot heat their homes, according to Time Magazine. Factories struggle to meet their global demands for Chinese goods. Foreign businesses are looking elsewhere to fulfill their production needs. The central government is also concerned that the higher energy prices will cause an increase in prices for consumers. While looking for resolutions, the power shortage could harm Chinese President Xi Jinping's plan to make China carbon neutral by 2060.

Beijing Has No Choice but to Buy Australia’s Iron Ore | Australia China Trade War
Despite politically motivated trade sanctions on Australian goods, Beijing has been left buying Australia’s expensive iron ore by the boatload.
Professor of Economics at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Richard Holden, said that Canberra holds a great deal of influence over Beijing, who has nowhere else to turn to meet its ravenous iron ore demand, even if it wanted to.
“We’ve actually got quite a lot of leverage with China in this instance, which is that they need a lot of iron ore,” Holden told The Epoch Times. “And they don’t buy iron ore from us because they want to be particularly nice to Australia.”
“They buy it because we produce a lot of it, we produce it very efficiently and effectively, and we don’t have some of the situations that have led to the iron ore price going up so much, like when Brazil had so many issues with supply.”

The U.S. nuclear energy regulator has decided to suspend licensing for shipments of radioactive materials and deuterium to China General Nuclear or CGN, China's largest nuclear power company.
In recent years, the CCP's expansion of nuclear weapons has become less covert, a move that runs counter to a decades-old nuclear strategy based on minimal deterrence. So why is the CCP doing this?
