Further thoughts on China and her impact on Global market...
There is no question that the strength of the Chinese economy, measured in things like manufacturing output and GDP growth, is slowing down. The issue, rather, is to what degree this is the case. Some years ago, economists were debating whether the Middle Kingdom was heading for a hard or a soft landing. In other words, whether economic growth would normalize or grind to a halt. Following the stock market rout in Shanghai and Hong Kong, the discussion has flared up again.
The definition of a hard or soft landing differs between economists, but one of the more workable definitions of a hard landing is a rapid slowdown in GDP growth from double-digits to the low singles. Some commentators have pointed to the meltdown in Chinese stocks as a sign of a hard landing, but this view is erroneous following the definition above. Weakness in stocks should in theory be a consequence rather than a predictor of slowing economic growth.
Unquestionably, the 7% growth in 2015 GDP projected by the Chinese government is lower than the 10.6% growth the country posted in 2010, the last time it notched a double-digit gain. However, we are still far from low single-digit GDP growth. Even a rather gloomy prediction from Goldman Sachs, estimating GDP growth over the next few years at 6.4%, 6.1% and 5.8%, is not putting us in the low singles any time soon. Trading Economics is projecting GDP growth of 5% in 2020, and 2050 GDP growth of 3.3%. If it indeed takes China 35 years to start hitting the low single digits, I think we can call China's landing a soft one.
Even if Goldman's prediction turns out to be correct, China's 2016 growth will still be more than twice as high as that of any developed economy, including star players like the United States and the United Kingdom, which are expected to clock in at 2.8% and 2.6% respectively for the year.
Another headline number that analysts have been fretting about is the slowdown in Chinese manufacturing, the manufacturing PMI dropping to 47.3 for the worst performance since March 2009 and the sixth consecutive month of declines. However, many seem to forget that the service sector is still expanding fairly rapidly, in keep with the government's policy to move towards a more sustainable service-based economy following the model of high-income countries.
According to psychologists, we as humans have a number of cognitive biases that can impair our ability to rationally appraise situations. One of these is the status quo bias, in which we tend to view the current state of affairs as preferable and any deviation from it as a loss. It may be the case that we are letting this bias cloud our judgment regarding the Chinese economy.
Although double-digit growth rates in China were of course a delight for investors and watchers of the global economy, it was clear from the outset that that kind of growth could not have gone on forever. And while China's economic expansion may be slowing down more than we would like, even a brief glance at the headline numbers shows that the country is still recording massive growth. In any case, these are certainly not the kind of numbers that would justify the Dow Jones' biggest one-day intraday point decline in history.
As such, it seems as if we have simply been spoiled by China's spectacular run of GDP growth. Having come to regard this as the norm, the slowdown, although a natural sign of a maturing economy, is regarded as a disaster and met with a tantrum on the part of investors who forget that a normalization of growth is better than an overheating economy.
..
Global markets are reeling from a meltdown in Chinese stocks, following a period of explosive appreciation which many regarded as a bubble, and worries over a slowdown in China's economic expansion. However, with the country still on course for a soft landing, recent stock market jitters may be more of a response to our own preference for the current (or recent) state of affairs rather than a genuine reflection of economic fundamentals.
The routing of recent Global markets seems to be stabilized and volatility is to be tamed after the decision made by Fed in Sept.... However, Bursa problem is unique which is decoupled from all Global markets,.... Aaiyoooo, , May God bless our country.
Wishing you all huat huat everyday... and be happy always

Some thoughts on China economy , one of the key pillar in Global market--
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
After the death of Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping spearheaded the growth of China's economy. By opening up to the rest of the world and adopting certain market economy applications, China's economy became one of the fastest growing economies in the world, with GDP growing from roughly $216 billion in 1978 to over $10 trillions in 2014.
This vast economic growth was spurred on by low-cost exports and investment into infrastructure led by the state. The manufacturing sector led the way in exports, with wages being subdued in order to remain competitive. Additionally, the state suppressed interest rates, thus allowing for investment in both manufacturing and infrastructure to flourish, with cheap credit flowing in from state controlled banks where most citizens deposited their savings.
During the initial sell-off back in June, as some investors predicted, the government stepped in to manage the fall. Interest rates were cut, IPOs were arrested, short-selling was eclipsed, trading was halted in 90% of shares, pension funds promised to buy more shares, and a fund was created by brokers in order to purchase shares. These measures did help to keep markets stable for a little while, though that didn't last very long. As a response to the slump last week, the People's Bank of China (PBoC) cut its benchmark interest rate last Tuesday and further reduced banks' reserve requirements.
Despite the poor performance in Chinese markets as of late, that does not spell immediate doom for the broader economy. Admittedly, unlike many other rich nations, the stock markets are not greatly correlated with China's economy. While the value of shares in most rich countries exceeds GDP, shares in China value roughly only a third of GDP.
Nonetheless, China's economy is not in great shape. The government claims that the economy is growing at 7 percent, though most would take that figure with a grain of salt. Weakness in China has caused commodity markets to take a large hit, with a basket of commodities reaching their lowest level in over 15 years. China intakes about half of the world's aluminum, steel and nickel, while roughly a third of its rice and cotton, thus any movements in China's economy will certainly affect the commodity markets. Commodity driven economies are definitely feeling the hit; just look at the shape of the economies and currencies of Brazil, Russia, Nigeria, and Malaysia, amongst others.
Unexpectedly on August 11th, China devalued its currency. Some immediately believed that the move was to help propel the lagging export sector, though China is more focused on shifting away from an export and infrastructure led growth model to a consumption driven one. The renminbi will now align itself with closing spot rates , but still move within the 2 percent band as set before. This reshaping of the currency will allow market forces to play a larger part in determining the currency's value, though the state still has power to intervene.
In order to keep the economy going, China must continue to move towards a free economy, unlike the current planned economy today. As the middle class continues to grow, they should be given an opportunity to invest in assets other than low interest rate deposits, an oversupplied real estate market or highly inflated stocks. Market skepticism will continue if the state can halt trading in shares and place other heavy handed restrictions on trading, and as seen recently, state interventions do not necessarily result in stability. Markets will not reach their full efficiency or potential if the state continues to interfere. Even if the Communist Party does revert to a free economy, do not expect China to continue to grow at high rates. Drawing from the law of large numbers, as the years go on, growth rates will likely fall to an average value in the low single digits, as seen in much of the developed world today.

Hi, good day to u,

Yeap, you may be right, however, if you analyse the Bursa market for the past 10 days, if Ajikor boys were absent, the klci (cash) should have plunged below 1400,........... But now it still stands near 1531.
This is critical (my own opinion only) for pacifying the many Government bond investors , otherwise, their immediate exodus will result in an irreversible damage to the economy ....
May god bless this country and wishing all here fine always

My thought on Bursa stocks/ Global equities...
China is slowing dramatically and the recent flash PMI data as well as the falling iron ore prices and lower consumer spending numbers continue to show that China's economy may be facing tough times ahead. Private sector debt levels in China are also higher than debt levels in U.S. banks were during the height of the housing bubble.
If growth in China continues to slow dramatically stocks will need to revalue at least 15-20% below current levels. The Bursa currently trades at 15x trailing earnings, a higher price to earning ratio than what stocks traded at in the bull markets of the 1990s and between 2003-2007.
To conclude, the market has been strong for several years, and equities have risen significantly in the last several months. If the stock market return to its 20 year average of between 12-13x forward earnings the market will decline another 15-20% and this recent sell-off will be seen a reevaluation of equities rather than a short-term correction.
