Parkson to get RM300mil earnings boost from HK subsidiary’s unit sale

KUALA LUMPUR: Parkson Holdings Bhd expects to boost its earnings for the financial year ending June 30, 2017 by RM300mil following its Hong Kong-listed subsidiary Parkson Retail Group Ltd’s (PRGL) “very substantial disposal” of an indirect unit. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Tuesday, Parkson said 54.67%-owned PRGL had announced to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Ltd the proposed disposal of Beijing Huadesheng Property Management Co Ltd for 1.67 billion yuan (RM1.03bil) plus the total amount of cash and bank balance in Beijing Huadesheng’s accounts as at the handover completion date and the amount of advanced rental taxes refunded by the Chinese governmental authorities to Beijing Huadesheng.

Beijing Huadesheng is involved in property development and property investment.

An EGM will be convened for PRGL shareholders to consider and, if thought fit, to approve the transactions.

KUALA LUMPUR: Sales of total industry vehicles (TIV), which comprise passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, rose 6% to 44,669 units in May from a month ago, a trade body said as it expects June to record higher sales.

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said on Friday the 44,669 units sold in May comprised 38,699 passenger vehicles and 5,970 commercial vehicles. 

While the 6% on-month increase accounted for 2,492 units, this was a decline from a year ago. May sales fell 12.8% or 6,583 units. 

For the January-May period, sales were 218,101 vehicles of which 193,953 were passenger vehicles and the remaining 24,148 units were commercial vehicles. This was a  17.6% decline from the 264,818 units in the previous corresponding period.

“Sales volume for June 2016 is expected to be better than May due to the Hari Raya festive season sales campaign by car companies and the introduction of new models,” said the MAA.

The MAA said vehicle production in May also declined, slipping 6.6% to 47,650 units from 51,024 units a year ago. For the five months to May, production fell 19.6% to 222,035 units from 276,355 in the previous corresponding period.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) is committed to working closely with national car maker, Proton Holdings Bhd, to expand its business potential in export markets.

Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dzulkifli Mahmud said on Tuesday Matrade would provide assistance on market intelligence about the respective export potential countries.

"Proton is keen to expand its business and has a good prospect of increasing its export to overseas markets.

"We are looking at markets like the Middle East, African countries, Latin America, Asia and others that have free trade agreements with Malaysia," he told reporters after launching the Seminar and Workshop on Medical Devices, here today.

Dzulkifli said Proton is set to re-enter Chile's market with 100 units of the Proton Preve by the end of this month, marking a comeback after a 16-year hiatus.

He said Proton could potentially export its other products to Chile and explore the electronic or hybrid car segment.

Sharing his trade mission experience to Tehran recently, Dzulkifli also said Proton's products such as the Gen2 was still strong there, reflecting the reliabity of the brand.

"Iran is looking forward to Proton's entry in a big way to the market," he said.- Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: DRB-Hicom Bhd has terminated its plan to sell 90% equity interest in Corwin Holding Pte Ltd, which owns the eight-level The Verge shopping mall in Singapore.  

The conglomerate told Bursa Malaysia that its indirect unit Hicom Megah Sdn Bhd as well as the minority shareholders of Corwin who own the remaining 10% had sent a termination notice to the intended purchaser, Evolutyon Real Estate Investment Holding Pte Ltd.

“The termination was due to the inability of the purchaser to fulfill its contractual obligations on the agreed completion date,” DRB-Hicom said.

Hicom Megah and the minority shareholders - Mohamed Mustafa & Samsuddin Co Pte Ltd and B.I. Distributors Pte Ltd - had on Dec 21, 2015, entered into a conditional share sale agreement (SSA) to sell their entire 100% equity interest in Corwin to Evolutyon for SG$317mil (RM937.5mil).

Hicom Megah’s total investment in Corwin from 1997 until 2015 was about RM224.94mil.

“Arising from the termination, neither party shall owe any further obligations to the other in respect of the SSA, save and except as otherwise provided for in the SSA. The vendors are of the view that the purchaser has no legal recourse against the vendors,” said DRB-Hicom.

（吉隆坡3日訊）百盛控股 （PARKSON，5657，主要板貿服）趕上韓流大趨勢，去年引進的韓流時尚品牌成功帶動銷售，未來將再引入新品牌和打造自家品牌，主席兼董事經理丹斯里鍾廷森看好，集團進行中的改革計劃料在未來兩年取得成果。

百盛控股在90年代從大馬紅至東南亞和中國，但近年業務卻深受“快時尚”和電子商務影響，在大馬、新加坡和香港上市的公司股價亦滑鐵盧，昔日榮景不再。



鍾廷森接受《The Edge財經日報》專訪時，不否認公司股價受壓，但強調未來將繼續改善業務，公司亦已為管理層注入新血和新業務概念，唯這些都需時才能看到效果。

“在新管理層下，我們眼前主要策略是節約成本，並學習提高每平方尺銷售。因此我們已關閉表現不佳的傳統超市，並開設更多概念商場。”

將再開分店

“我們也在探索賺幅更佳的自家品牌，及從韓國和歐洲引入新的零售品牌。”

鍾廷森說，百盛控股位于吉隆坡柏威年（Pavilion）購物中心的百盛旗艦店，去年11月引進3大韓流時尚品牌SPAO、MIXXO和WHO.A.U，帶動銷售提高約25%。

與韓國伙伴E-Land集團在上海合作的百貨公司于去年底重開后，銷量更大增約50%。

鍾廷森透露，集團計劃今年最多5家分店，但仍在物色合適地點。同時也計劃在中國開設另兩家概念商場，包括即將開張的青島新商場。

“隨著大馬和中國的購物中心市場飽和，客戶對商場的期望也將不同。我們需要加入新概念來維持競爭力。”

百盛控股持股67.6%、在新加坡上市的百盛零售亞洲（PRA），主攻東南亞業務。持股53.1%的香港上市子公司百盛商業集團（PRG），則負責營運中國業務。
