SEREMBAN — Malaysia’s Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali met with representatives of the Singapore government on Saturday (Aug 11) to discuss the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project, and a detailed report will be presented to the Malaysian Cabinet this week.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the meeting, which began at noon, was held to resolve issues related to the project.
“I’m not sure what (exactly transpired, but the meeting was) certainly about the direction of the project and how to resolve (sticking points).
“I do not want to make any conclusions at this time.

“(Azmin) will present a report on the discussion in Cabinet next week,” he told reporters after launching the Jalur Gemilang 2018 Campaign at Taman Pulai Impian.
The Singapore government had accepted an invitation by Mr Azmin for a discussion on the HSR in a letter he sent on July 23.
The HSR project, first proposed by Malaysia in 2013, is a 350km line that would have slashed rail travel time between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to 90 minutes.
But its fate has been uncertain since the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government won the May 9 election, with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and some of his cabinet ministers vowing to scrap the project in order to trim Putrajaya's RM1 trillion (S$336 billion) debt.
Since then, Putrajaya has sent mixed signals on the issue, saying that it wants to postpone the project instead of cancelling it.
Malaysia has also made conflicting remarks on the proposed meeting between both sides on the issue.
Johor chief minister Datuk Osman Sapian added on Sunday that the state’s PH government is reviewing past projects approved by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) state administration to ensure industry giants do not monopolise them.
The state will scrutinise all projects, regardless of their scale, and call for an open tender, said Datuk Osman.
“Irregardless of the scale of the project, the state government will conduct an open tender system which is a more balanced and fair system,” he said in the state assembly on Sunday.
He also gave an assurance that mega projects in Johor, including the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR and the Eco Park, have not been cancelled, but were being relooked.
“The two mega projects, which is HSR and Eco Park in Kulai is not stopped, but it is being look into.
“This involves research and several things such as its pricing and will take some time to fine tune,” said the Kempas assemblyman. NEW STRAITS TIMES, MALAY MAIL ONLINE, AGENCIES
