The prospect for TNB earning in the next half year of 2023 is likely to remain positive, based on the following factors:

The electricity demand is expected to recover as the Covid-19 pandemic situation improves and the economic activities resume.
The fuel costs are expected to stabilise or decline as the global coal price moderates and the gas price for Tier 2 reduces from RM62.1 per one million British thermal units (mmbtu) in 1Q23 to RM55.5 per mmbtu in 2Q231.
The ICPT mechanism is expected to provide a cost recovery mechanism for TNB to pass through any changes in fuel and generation costs to the customers, subject to the government’s approval.
The government is expected to pay the outstanding ICPT receivables of RM10.2 billion by 2Q23, which will improve TNB’s cash flow and liquidity position.
The data centre projects are expected to provide new sources of revenue and growth opportunities for TNB, as well as increase its investments in transmission and distribution assets and beyond kilowatt-hour services.
The regional connectivity projects are expected to enhance TNB’s role as a regional player and enable it to export renewable energy to neighbouring countries.
According to analysts’ consensus estimates, TNB is expected to report a net profit of RM4.6 billion for FY23, which implies a growth of 8.7% from FY222. The average target price for TNB is RM11.9 per share, which implies a potential upside of 14.4% from the current price of RM9.100 per share

Imagine 5-10 years later, 50% EV car on the road for Malaysia, means half of current petrol station business go to TNB. Just buy and keep for your old days or next generation. :)

Joke No.1 = 50% of EV cars on the road in 5 years time
Joke No.2 = Petrol Station business go to TNB

We should ponder about these instead:
1. Can we afford EV cars?
2. Can we afford to change EV cars every 5 years? while the battery life span is around 5 years and its very expensive
3. High environment temperature that will drain rechargeable batteries even sooner
4. Opportunity cost for our economy if fossil fuel is substituted with rechargeable batteries. (we are petroleum producing country)
5. Can we afford higher battery charging cost compared to lower petrol cost that is subsidized?

the real threat is not tesla but BYD..... if byd managed to reduced the cost of importing , that will really boost the market to atleast 20-30% in 5 years how can proton even keep up LOL,, susahhh
we have few years to monitor ,, uncertain for now but EV is going to be big for sure

Tenaga is stable for its dividend. Covering of shots is nearly done. You can observe the covering 9.1-9.15 as if they are covering/selling among the fund managers. Short sellers are known to have private information about security prices. The the covering is done, market condition will be back.

@Attaaaaaack, let's see. I rather bet on TNB when still able to give dividend now without EV contribution, then missed the boat 5 years later. Gov will NOT provide petrol subsidy forever. The plan is to cut all kind of subsidy slowly.

@Hemsley, nor will petroleum companies accept the loss of petrol supply, a new win win policy will definitely emerge if and only if demand/usage of EV increases..... so definitely Tenaga can't monopoly the game as the Fortune 500 petroleum companies (Petronas, Shell etc...) will venture into automotive electicity supply and take the lead as usual :)

Even if PETRONAS generate clean energy from whatever means (solar ke, hydro ke, wind ke), u think it is generated next to their petrol station ke? They need to use Tenaga power lines to transmit the electric from source to their petrol stations lah

As a matter of fact, petrol companies can supply clean energy independently to EV charging facilities without depending on tenaga power transmission lines. In fact, many petrol companies are already doing this. For example, Shell has partnered with solar company Sunseap to install solar panels at Shell petrol stations in Singapore. Another alternative is purchase renewable energy credits (RECs). Many other alternatives will emerge when the demand increases as to avoid the monopoly and to create a free competitive market......
