Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd (AMH) has appointed former Chief Justice Tun Zaki Tun Azmi as Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director effective Aug 15, 2012.
In a statement today, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Astro Holdings Bhd, Datuk Rohana Rozhan, said Zaki will also chair the Nomination and Corporate Governance Committee of the board of directors.
"We are confident that Zaki, with his considerable experience, will make a significant contribution towards corporate governance responsibility in the company," she said.
Zaki joined the Malaysian Judicial and Legal Services as a magistrate in 1970 and later transferred to the Attorney General's Chambers where he served for 15 years before going into private legal practice in 1985.
He was appointed the 12th Chief Justice of Malaysia in 2008. "Astro is one of our leading brands, and is well set to play a major role in the digital future of Malaysia," said Zaki.
Meanwhile, effective Aug 15, 2012, Datuk Badri Masri has stepped down as Chairman of AMH.
He will, however, remain as Chairman of Astro Holdings, the parent company of AMH. -- Bernama
