PETALING JAYA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has warned those responsible over the Penang’s Pasukan Peronda Sukarela (PPS) unit to surrender before police raid their homes.

Khalid commented on the action taken on PPS in Penang via his official Twitter account @KBAB51 on Sunday.

“Tindakan @PDRMsia keatas PPS di PP - elok lah mrk yg bertanggungjawap keatas PPS ini segera menyerah diri sebelum kami serbu kediaman.” (@PDRMsia action on PPS in PP - it is best that those responsible over PPS surrender themselves immediately before we raid homes.)

Some 154 PPS unit members, including seven women, were escorted to the Beach Street police station soon after they took part in a state-level Merdeka procession in Penang.

It is learnt that the group will be sent to the George Town police district headquarters to records their statements.

The group of PPS members marched past the VIPs during the celebration in Esplanade at 10.10am on Sunday.

As soon as they reached the state legislative assembly in Light Street, about 50 policemen then escorted them to the police station.

There is currently a strong police presence guarding the Beach Street police station, and several police trucks were also seen parked outside.

Several elected representatives were also seen there.

Last week, Khalid warned that police would conduct a thorough investigation into the activities of PPS and take the appropriate action in accordance with the law.

He said at the time that according to the Registrar of Societies (ROS), the Penang voluntary patrol team was not registered under the Societies Act (1966) (Act 335) and was viewed as an illegal society under Section 41 of the Act.

The igp and pdrm are currently running in cuckoo mode. Arresting 250 pps members for nothing,do they know what is the cost incur for this operation? I am speechless seeing what is goin on in this country. I think each individual arrested should sue pdrm, who cares whether its tax payer money.

The PPS will be praised and supported by more and more people, not only in Penang, after this PDRM incident, which has backfired - and badly too. Just shows how jealous the PDRM are jealous of the PPS in the same way that they are jealous of PAS'Unit Amal.

If Penang was under Barang Naik rule we won't even have these volunteers, especially non-Malays. Who wants to join a racist club of sorts?

Don`t worry, the Police will be charged for wrongful arrest. It will not be able to explain itself in an impartial court of law. It has cast the first stone, let PPS AND THE STATE GOVERNMENT SUE THE POLICE BACKSIDE. LET THEM KENA KUAT KUAT!!! PPS never commit any wrong.

Phee Boon Poh is the kind of leader you can respect. He has been a loyal servant of DAP despite his past link with Gerakan but he has perform well, you can say a dutiful and responsible leader who can stand firm with his friends and men. Kudos to you, Boon Poh and make sure you sue the backside of this bloody IGP and the Police
