The intensity of the Qatar-Gulf crisis which started early June caught many by surprise. To-date there has been no signs of progress in the mediation efforts by well-intending and concerned parties like Kuwait and Turkey.
With land, sea and air blockade, the crisis had escalated beyond the expections of many observers and upset a lot of lives. A long list of demands by the anti-Qatar block (led by Saudi) was rejected by Qatar.
New alliances are being forged as regional countries such Iran, Turkey, Oman and even Jordan are apparently unwilling to see another crisis in their neighbourhood. The rift will also influence the 6 year old civil war in Syria, as Qatar has been among those strongly backing some anti-Assad forces there.
Serious conflicts in a major energy-producing region will have only adverse effect on global economic and political stability unless influential countries facilitate appropriate solutions.
