KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — Chief executive officer of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) Arul Kanda Kandasamy was seen at the Finance Ministry headquarters in Putrajaya earlier this afternoon.

Online portal MalaysiaKini reported that Arul Kanda arrived at 2.45pm.

It is believed that he was there to see Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, after the latter announced that he wanted the embattled company’s chief executive to brief him regarding 1MDB’s finances yesterday.

Lim claimed that the Finance Ministry has been bailing 1MDB out to the tune of up to RM7 billion on interest payments and settlement payments to Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) since April last year.

He wanted Arul Kanda to explain how 1MDB can meet its upcoming interest payment of RM143.75 million by its May 30 deadline.
