SHAH ALAM: DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng today said the party had maintained a stellar record after the 2018 General Election (GE14), still keeping all 42 of its parliamentarians since then.
Speaking at a special DAP congress today, Lim said this was something the party was proud of, and also proved its representatives' commitment and spirit to serve the people.
DAP today will amend its party constitution banning its members of Parliament (MP), state assemblymen and senators from hopping to another party.
"(This amendment) is to ensure that there is no hope at all to those who want to change parties.
"If you jump, tiada esok bagimu (there will be no opportunities for you tomorrow)," he said.
Lim stressed that the amendments would not reduce party members' rights to raise their concerns, adding that any differences in opinions could be voiced within the party.
He also reiterated that the interests of the party and the people were bigger than that of the individual, adding that a representative cannot jump ship just for wealth, luxury, or position.
"There must not be political frogs in DAP or the country," he said.
On July 28, the Dewan Rakyat made history by passing the amendments to the Federal Constitution, prohibiting MPs from party-hopping.
The Constitution (Amendment) bill (No.3) 2022 and the Provision for the Prohibition of Members of Parliament (MPs) from Party-Hopping received two-thirds majority support through a bloc voting.
