KUALA LUMPUR: The attacks against Umno are mounted to prevent the "kleptocrat party" from winning the 15th General Election (GE15) and forming a "kleptocratic government".

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, in a Facebook post, said if all the wrongdoings by Umno were not revealed, it would be highly possible that voters will vote for the party like they used to. 

 "The Umno leadership is not happy with the attacks against the party, saying it is an attempt to cover up the attacker's failures.

"More so that the leadership has been very successful in covering up their wrongdoings by saying that party members and supporters need not be ashamed when they commit wrongdoings.  

"As such, it is the responsibility of the people to remind the voters of the bad leadership of the Umno government under (Datuk Seri) Najib (Razak) and his allies. 

"All the wrongdoings and failures of Umno must be revealed so that the people can reject Umno in GE15," he said.

Dr Mahathir added that Malaysia had become a semi-developed (separuh maju) country and was known as the Tiger of Asia.  

"(However), when Najib became the prime minister, he refused to serve the nation and the country.

"He thought that through bribery to the people, Umno would be elected in every general election. 

"To make the belief 'Cash is King' successful, Najib poured billions of ringgit into Umno and the people for free.

"Where did the huge funds come from? From 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), a government-owned company established by Najib, with a capital of RM1 million and the company borrowed more than RM40 billion with high interest."

Dr Mahathir added that a portion of the money was then put into Najib's account before being distributed to Umno leaders and divisions.  

"(And) they turned a blind eye to Najib's misconduct of putting the money borrowed by 1MDB into his account.

"They continued to support Najib, while voters were also bribed by Najib so that Umno would win.

"Najib believed that by doing so, he would remain as the prime minister and could prevent legal action against him regarding the 1MBD money."
