KOTA KINABALU, Nov 5 ― Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will make a statement on Beluran incumbent Datuk Ronald Kiandee’s breaking of ranks to contest the seat without his blessing.
Hajiji, who is Sabah Bersatu chief, said that he was aware of Kiandee’s move and said that he would make a statement soon.
“Of course I will want to wait for an official statement before making an announcement. Maybe tomorrow,” he said when asked by Malay Mail.
Earlier today, five-term MP Kiandee offered himself as a candidate against the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-Barisan Nasional on the grounds of “continuous development” in the constituency.
The Bersatu vice president said he was contesting on a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket as GRS was a component of the national level coalition and the two was still interrelated.
“I’m contesting on the PN ticket, a party that has components on a national and state level. This is a good platform to fight for the aspirations of Beluran at federal level,” he said.
When asked how GRS-Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters on the ground will choose between the two, he just repeated that Bersatu was a component party of GRS and PN of which he was a member.
Asked by reporters whether he had spoken to chief minister Datuk Hajiji about it, he said “that you have to ask him.”
Kiandee is contesting against BN’s Umno candidate Benedict Asmat and four other candidates.
GRS and Sabah BN have been working together as the ruling state government since the 2020 state elections and have formed an electoral pact which sees them sharing the 25 parliamentary seats ― 13 seats for GRS and 12 for BN.
Beluran was given to BN’s Umno to contest.
Disappointed that his seat was dropped by GRS and given to Umno, Kiandee is believed to have gotten the letter of appointment from PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to defend his seat.
