KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry is currently reviewing how increased diesel prices have impacted the construction industry, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Works Minister said this will include referring to the construction material cost index published by the Statistics Department as it will record any increase or decrease in construction costs in the country.

"It is too early to estimate the increase in costs within the construction industry.

"The government is currently reviewing the issue and a thorough analysis needs to be conducted from various perspectives before considering or introducing new policies," he told the Dewan Rakyat during the Minister's Question Time session here on Thursday (July 4).

He was replying to a supplementary question from Roslan Hashim (Perikatan Nasional-Kulim Bandar Baharu) on the government's initiatives to assist contractors, especially those who secured tenders before diesel prices were floated.

Nanta added that his ministry is drafting plans to assist G1 to G4 contractors affected, which would be discussed with the Finance Ministry and other relevant agencies.
