PUTRAJAYA: The settlement agreement between the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and businessman Jho Low, was not on the Cabinet meeting's agenda today, says unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil.

"The matter has not been concluded. We leave it to the discussions that, I believe, are ongoing. I do not have more information on that," he said at a press conference here today.

He said this when asked whether today's Cabinet meeting discussed the settlement agreement between the US DOJ and Jho Low regarding the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

On June 28, media reported that the US DOJ has entered into a confidential agreement with Jho Low, in an effort to reach a global settlement and bring the extensive asset forfeiture efforts linked to the tainted 1MDB to a final chapter.

According to documents reviewed by Channel News Asia (CNA), the global settlement will "forever resolve the United States' civil, criminal, and administrative asset forfeiture actions or proceedings relating to the disposition" of assets tied to 1MDB.

The report added that the confidential agreement, which has yet to be publicly disclosed, is tied to the DOJ's June 26 announcement that it is set to recover an additional US$100 million (RM471 million) in resolving two civil forfeiture cases.

Meanwhile, when asked if there were any discussions regarding the Dewan Negara speaker candidate, he said this matter too, was also not raised during today's meeting.
