KUALA LUMPUR: A total of RM2.6 billion in loans are being repaid by entrepreneurs to the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (Tekun Nasional).

Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk R. Ramanan said the total loan has been a collective amount since 2008 up to this year involving over 100,000 borrowers.

"The repayment is ongoing by the entrepreneurs. We have been advising borrowers and making calls to ensure they repay their loans.

"While repayments are being made, the RM2.6 billion, once fully repaid, will significantly increase our capacity to lend to others," he said after attending a dialogue session with entrepreneurs from the Indian community.

Ramanan said those who have made consistent repayments and have less than 50 per cent of their loan amount outstanding may apply for an overlap loan.

"With the cooperation of Tekun Nasional, it was announced that borrowers with less than two years of outstanding payments who maintained good repayment records and completed all necessary documentation can apply for a second loan."

He urged borrowers to fulfill their repayment obligations.

"I appeal to all borrowers to repay their loans. Many have been approved for loans and have benefited from them.

"Successful repayments allow Tekun to support more entrepreneurs and businesses, giving others the same opportunities you have enjoyed."

Meanwhile, the dialogue session dubbed as 'Sembang Santai Vanakam Madani' was participated by 500 Tekun Indian community entrepreneurs from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Pahang, and Negri Sembilan.

A total of RM60 million has been allocated to Indian community entrepreneurs this year through Tekun Nasional.

It is expected that more than 2,000 Indian entrepreneurs will benefit from this allocation.
