The global tourism industry is booming. Emirates SkyCargo has placed a second order in 2024 for five more Boeing 777 Freighters, bringing its total Boeing aircraft order to 249, including 14 freighters.

1) The global semiconductor sector is gradually recovering from the inventory correction cycle.

2) The aviation sector is in a strong recovery phase, and the number of passengers has basically returned to more than 99% of the pre-epidemic level.

Time to enter this stock

Analysts have foreseen recovery for Malaysia’s technology sector next year, underpinned by factors including artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure investments.
CIMB Securities said in its recent report that it expects Malaysia’s technology sector revenue to grow by an average of 25 percent in 2025 to 2026 (versus +2 percent in 2024), driven by a broader recovery in the global semiconductor market, underpinned by AI infrastructure investments and a pickup in the inventory replenishment cycle.

While DeepSeek's rise may impact the global semiconductor industry, Malaysia's semiconductor sector, which primarily focuses on assembly, testing, and packaging rather than producing cutting-edge AI-specific chips, will experience far less direct impact

SAM Engineering & Equipment (M) Bhd (KL:SAM)aposted a 6.88% increase in its net profit for the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2024 (3QFY2025) to RM31.34 million, from RM29.32 million a year earlier, on 5% higher revenue.

The better profitability was also helped mainly by lower net finance costs and tax expense.

Net finance costs fell 47.3% to RM3.66 million in 3QFY20245, from RM6.94 million a year ago, while tax expense was down by 55.45% to RM4.65 million from RM10.43 million previously.

SAM Engineering registered RM406.87 million revenue during the quarter, compared with RM387.28 million in 3QFY2024, due to higher profit contribution from its aerospace segment.

For the nine months of FY2025 (9MFY2025), SAM Engineering’s net profit fell 19.58% to RM66.33 million compared with RM82.48 million in 9MFY2024, as revenue inched down by 1.19% to RM1.11 billion from RM1.12 billion previously, while cost of sales increased.

Moving forward, SAM Engineering said the economic outlook for the aerospace and semiconductor equipment industries continues to be clouded by the ongoing geopolitical tensions.

"While SEMI ([emiconductor Equipment and Materials International] anticipates growth, we believe significant growth will only materialise at higher fab utilisation rate. To prepare for future growth, we remain actively engaged with our customers on new product developments,” it said.

Quoting SEMI's forecasts, SAM Engineering believes that the global sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment will continue its upward momentum, with equipment sales expected to grow to US$121 billion in 2025 and US$139 billion in 2026.

Shares of SAM Engineering closed down eight sen or 2.2% to RM3.57 on Thursday, valuing the group at RM2.42 billion.

SAM Engineering & Equipment (M) Bhd, which manufactures production equipment and aerospace products, saw its net profit for its fourth financial quarter ended March 31, 2025 (4QFY2025) slip 2% to RM25.59 million from RM26.1 million a year earlier, on lower profit contributions from the equipment and aerospace segments.

This resulted in a lower earnings per share of 3.78 sen for 4QFY2025 compared with 4.35 sen for 4QFY2024.

Revenue for the quarter was flattish at RM370.09 million from RM373.62 million in 4QFY2024, on lower revenue from its equipment segment due to lower demand from data storage customers and unfavourable foreign exchange translation.

The group also declared a first interim dividend of 2.8 sen per share for the financial year ended March 31, 2025 (FY2025), payable on Aug 8.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Friday, SAM Engineering said the lower profit for 4QFY2025 from the equipment segment was mainly due to lower sales and under-recovery of cost due to low capacity utilisation offset by lower interest expense.

For the aerospace segment, the lower profit was mainly due to lower sales, but this was offset by a positive contribution from its subsidiary Aviatron (M) Sdn Bhd — a manufacturer of aircraft structure parts and precision engineering components.

For FY2025, SAM Engineering posted a 15.3% decline in net profit to RM91.92 million from RM108.58 million in FY2024, while revenue slipped 1.1% to RM1.48 billion from RM1.5 billion.

Looking ahead, SAM Engineering said the current economic outlook is uncertain, but in the longer term it remains cautiously optimistic in respect of the aerospace and semiconductor industries.

SAM Engineering shares closed up 14 sen or 3.64% at RM3.99 on Friday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM2.7 billion. The stock has fallen 9.73% so far this year.
