KUANTAN: A popular tourist attraction in Brinchang, Cameron Highlands which has been operating without approval was torn down by the Cameron Highlands district council yesterday.

The operation which was led by Cameron Highlands district council president Azmil Hadid Maznan began at about 9am.

In a Facebook post, the council said the operation was also joined by officers from Tenaga Nasional Berhad, police, the Pahang enforcement unit, the Public Works Department, and the district and land office.

"The premises were demolished for offences under Section 70(1) of the Streets, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 for carrying out construction without the prior written permission of the local authority.

"Hopefully, the enforcement action will serve as a warning and reminder to any quarters that plan to carry out development projects that they need to fully comply with the relevant procedures and regulations," read the posting.

The premises which opened its doors in April this year have been a major hit among local and international travellers during their visit to the country's popular hill station.
