KUCHING (Sept 9): The vast trove of information stored by the National Archives of Malaysia holds the potential to significantly enrich the nation’s historical records, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

He said these valuable records have not been fully utilised by historians, leading to concerns about gaps in Malaysia’s historical documentation.

“We need the National Archives to take a more proactive role. They possess a wealth of information that must be shared with the public,” he told reporters after attending a programme commemorating Statesman Tun Datuk Patinggi Temenggong Jugah Anak Barieng here on Monday.

As part of efforts to ensure a more comprehensive historical narrative, Aaron said the ministry will host the Malaysian History Convention on Sept 19. The convention aims to bring together historical records and insights from various sources across the country.

“This convention will also serve as a platform for stakeholders to review and enhance the historical facts that have already been recorded.

“There may be gaps in how history is currently taught in schools, with some details being overlooked. We hope this convention will help us align with the extensive data preserved by the National Archives of Malaysia,” he added.
