Typhoon Pulasan: Malaysians in East China advised to stay vigilant

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians in the East China region including Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui which may be affected by Typhoon Pulasan should stay vigilant and follow the latest updates and guidance provided by the local authorities, said the Foreign Ministry.

The ministry in a statement Thursday (Sept 19) urged those who have not yet registered and updated their whereabouts and details to do so immediately at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my.

"Malaysians requiring consular assistance may contact the Consulate General of Malaysia in Shanghai at Unit 01, Block B, 9th Floor, Dawning Centre, No. 500, Hongbaoshi Road, Changning District, 201103 Shanghai or telephone +86 21 6090 0360/ +86 21 6090 0371 or email mwshanghai@kln.gov.my,” the statement read.

According to the statement the Foreign Ministry, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Shanghai, is closely monitoring Typhoon Pulasan as it approaches China.

Currently classified as a category 1 typhoon, it is expected to make landfall in the afternoon or the evening of Thursday (Sept 19) with a wind speed of up to 153 km/h that could lead to heavy rainfall and possible flash floods, it added.

The statement said disruptions to transportation and power outages are also expected to occur.

As of 2pm on Sept 19, Typhoon Pulasan was located in the East China Sea. The typhoon is forecasted to move on its current path and may affect areas in East China including Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui, it added. - Bernama
